SFLIS Minutes - January 21, 2004 - We have the Book of Exalted Deeds here! And people talk about things like swords and fists and splat books and builder books and how D&D is starting to resemble Microsoft because different versions are not compatible with each other. D&D XP rocks! But it can't be used with Monster Manual 2.6 or Dungeon Masters Guide 2.9. - Anime show fliers are passed around. Next one is Sunday Jan. 25, C125 Poppajohn Business Bldg, 1-8pm. - Now we're talking about Initial-D strategies and competing against the computer vs. competing against other players. - After a few minutes of silence, someone asks, "Does anyone have anything interesting to say?" No. Except for a new Star Trek game that's worth renting. - Mindbridge has LOTS of leftover AnimeIowa 2002 t-shirts (the Usagi Yojimbo one). - Sporting goods stores have been selling lots of mountaineering gear lately because of all the Iowans going to the Caucasus. - A shovel is demonstrated. Ok, this is a very sturdy metal shovel made from pipes and reinforced bicycle tubes which can be taken apart and carried in a backpack. A year ago it was nothing more than a pipe dream! Could be very useful for rescue workers. At the meeting, people couldn't resist hefting it and thrusting and swinging it like a weapon. - Who starred in Mystery Men, that movie about substitute superheros with unusual and sometimes useless powers? Robert DeNero and.....? - An Illuminations Speculative Fiction Contest announcement is passed around. $5 entry fee, the winners will have their stories published in an anthology. See http://tyrannosauruspress.com/Illuminata/Illuminations.html for details. - Meeting's over.
