SFLIS Minutes - December 17, 2003 - We're going to see Lord of the Rings tonight. We were able to get tickets this time, unlike last month when we tried for the Matrix. The 8:20 showing at Sycamore Mall. This is the last showing of the night. - At Lord of the Rings, what should we do if there are people in the audience saying things like 'Who's that?' or 'What did he do in the last movie?' or 'So, who's this Frodo guy you keep talking about?' or 'The Ring.... wasn't that an opera by Wagner?' - The Mill will be closed on the 24th for Christmas Eve, so we won't be meeting next week. But we will have a meeting on the 31st. - Is it too late for Saddam Hussein to run for the Democratic presidential nomination? Or governor of California? - Quote of the week: "As long as it's big and bald, I'm happy." - Both our co-presidents are missing again. Do we have a vice president? Or a president of vice? - Is there anything going on right now besides Lord of the Rings? No. But 100 years ago today something happened in North Carolina. Does anybody know what? - Return of the King. Is that anything like Return of the Jedi? Or Return of the Overdue Library Book? With Mark Hammil playing Sauron? - A baby carrier with The Invisible Man's baby in it is brought in and demonstrated. Ok, so there's no baby. It has some weights in it to simulate a baby's weight and to try and come up with a better design for lugging the thing around. - Video gaming on the 14th. It happened. It's over. People had fun playing things like Bomberman, Soul Calibur, Mario Partyland. - Now we're talking about how to find the best seat in the theater. Bring your protractors.... One ticket to see them all, one ticket to find them.... We're going to start gathering at the theater entrance around 7:30 and try to get a row of seats all together. - Oh yeah, 100 years ago today in North Carolina, the Wright brothers had their first successful flight. - Meeting's over.
