SFLIS Minutes - September 17, 2003 - Bowling was a fad about 3 years ago but everyone's forgotten about it by now. Ok, there will be retro bowling for charity on Nov. 8, where the people doing it will be wearing 70s outfits. - We take a look at some time-lapse photos of the Hal nebula expelling a huge amount of gas after swallowing 3 Jupiter-size planets. Ok, it might not be called Hal, but with that bright red glowing thing in the center, it kind of looks like the Hal 9000. - We could have a meating now. Is there any meat here? - We have a SFLIS survey "in progress." We'll take a look at it at the next meeting and see if we need to make any changes before having people fill it out. - Do we want to see Underworld? The Bijou is having late night showings of SF/horror-type movies. Do we want to go? - AnimeIowa had their growth management meeting last weekend. They discussed growth management. - There's a SWAMP anime showing this weekend. Sunday the 21st, 1-8pm, C125 Poppajohn Business Bldg. - Mayor McCheese or Ronald McDonald: which one is in charge? How will they decide? Will they delay the election? Is Mayor McCheese a Republican or Democrat? We spend some time discussing the politics and traffic laws of McDonaldland. What is Grimmace's role in it? And what about the morality of all those characters who openly encourage the eating of their own kind? Has anyone come out with a McDonaldland RPG game? Now we're talking about what some of the rules for the game would be. And then we move on to other RPG games. - There's an arcade game auction in Des Moines this weekend. - Next week we hope to have a place and a date for Gamicon. Josh has issues. I was told to put that in the minutes. Ok, there may be some issues with the IMU as the location, if they end up having it there. Such as the lack of free parking nearby, whether there's enough of the right kind of function and dealer space. But it's probably ok for a temporary location. We can come up with a list of free parking nearby and on the Cambus routes. - Kangaroo meat is called 'beef' in Australia. Beef is also called 'beef.' Beef can be either from kangaroos or cows. But they say that kangaroo tastes better. - Whale ranching. How do you keep them fenced in? With high frequency sound waves, and whale cowboys riding on dolphins, keeping watch over the herd..... - Ok, that's enough for this week.
