SFLIS Minutes - September 10, 2003

- We got our forms turned in on time, so we're still a student organization.
- ICON is coming up.  One month from today.
  It's at Zazza's....... Is it a Clarion that use to be a Sheraton or a
  Sheraton that use to be a Clarion?
  In spite of what was said last week, preregistration might not be closed
  after all.  None of us has a flyer with us and we haven't looked at the
  website for a while and none of the concom members are here today, so....
  Who knows?
- There was a Mindbridge picnic on Saturday.  Attendance was good.
- AnimeIowa 2000 shared function space with a wedding.
  The second Anime Central shared function space with a convention of nuns.
  AnimeIowa is going to have a meeting to discuss growth management.
  This led to some more discussion of where to move to, the pros and cons
  (mostly cons) of downtown locations (parking isn't free, no place to eat
  that's open in the evening, crime rate, etc.).  We speculate about where
  AnimeIowa might move to and what to do about people who say they lost
  their badges and want a replacement.  Charging $10 for this was a good
  idea, but they need a way to verify that the person is who they say they
  are.  We think up some ways to blackmail people who try to cheat the
  system.
- What's going to happen at ICON?
  There will be art.  We think there will be guests.  Rusty Hevelin will
  be there, at least.  There will be a TICC skit.  They can always use
  volunteers.  There will be anime.  What anime will there be?  Some
  possibilities are mentioned.
- There will probably be Gamicon next year, possibly in February, at a
  location somewhere.
- Somehow, the conversation has moved to greasy bars run by robots.
- Nausicaa is coming out on region 2 DVD in November.  If you pay extra,
  you can get the deluxe edition that comes with an Ohmu which can't be
  shipped via airmail.
- The Missouri quarter is out now.  It has the Golden Arches on it.
  Ok, it has arches, anyway.  If you were a state, which one would you
  like to be?
- Then we move on to spam.  The electronic kind that clogs your email
  inbox.
- And after moving through a few more random topics of conversation, we
  end the meeting.
