SFLIS Minutes - August 27, 2003 - We start out by discussing what we should blame Josh for. How about Iraq? Or AnimeIowa. - Speaking of AnimeIowa, it happened last weekend. Attendance was a little over 1600, or maybe 1800 or whatever, depending on who you ask. We'll know the official number eventually. There were a lot of people. They're in the black again, like last year. AnimeIowa had lots of cheeseballs left over. Several people took pictures of them stacked floor to ceiling in the bathroom of the room across the hall from the consuite. One dealer got kicked out for selling a weapon to a minor. They're talking about banning stuff next year that's not licensed in the US or a Japanese import. In other words, no bootlegs, no SM CDs, etc. The cosplay was crowded as usual. - There are two anime cons in Chicago in October, two weeks apart. Kazecon is the same weekend as ICON - Oct. 10-12. - We might have a Shovel Marty's Driveway party in January. He'll provide spoons for us to use. But he'll be nice - tablespoons instead of teaspoons. - They'll be showing the extended DVD versions of Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in theaters for a week or so before Return of the King opens. How about watching all three of them back to back in one day? What's the director going to do next? King Kong. He's just made a series of high-quality movies from the best-selling books of the 20th century. What can he possibly do to follow this? The Bible: The Extended Version. 10 movies with exclusive behind the scenes footage. War and Peace. He could make this into two moves. First one would be 'War' and the second one would be 'Peace.' Asmiov's Foundation trilogy? A musical comedy based on Machiavelli's 'The Prince?' Lord of the Rings porn: 'Lord of the G-Strings.' Supposedly, it really exists. The seedy side of Middle Earth. Rivendell, the red light district, good elves gone bad. - Ok, back to AnimeIowa. There were several people dressed up as Chii from ChoBits who were acting very cute and 'in character,' and would not shut up. What can you do if this starts to bother you? Well, you could always find their on/off switch and try turning them off...... - Anime showing Sunday Sept. 7, C125 Poppajohn Business Bldg. 1-8pm. Showing stuff like Popoton and a bunch of others that most people have never heard of. - Newscasters get the big words right but stumble over things like 'and' and 'the.' Sometimes they do better when they're drunk. We hear some amusing meteorologist stories and stories about people freaking out during weather alerts. And tornados. And there are people out there who say they actually prefer earthquakes to tornados, even though tornados usually give you a lot more warning than earthquakes do. - The president officially calls the meeting. So naturally, we ask what we're going to call it. Fred. The next one will be Jose. We're done. There's a Mindbridge meeting next week.
