SFLIS Minutes - August 6, 2003 - Some "news" articles are passed around: "I only date guys my friends are afraid will kill me." "Wide-Load Laptops Target Americans' Growing Laps" "Study finds thinking about exercise will keep you fit." - For the next election, is it possible to get so many names on the ballot that it crashes the system? - Crocodile Dundee in Cedar Rapids. Ok, someone from Australia brought some Vegemite to Cedar Rapids, and one of our SFLIS members was there to taste it. Compared to Vegemite, the smell of the Quaker Oats plant is nothing. Cedar Rapids: The city of 5 smells. - They turned the stockyards in Sioux City into a slaughterhouse-themed shopping center with restaurants. - Where is everyone today? There are only 5 of us here, even though there's a Mindbridge meeting afterwards. Maybe the fact that the Mindbridge meeting is somewhere else has something to do with it. - The Simpsons has been on for a long time and it's still funny! There are some Thundercats bloopers online where you can hear the voice actors screw up. Silverhawks too. These are audio files. As far as video goes, outtakes from live-action tend to be funnier than outtakes from animation because half the fun is seeing the reactions of the actors when they realize they screwed up. But with animated characters, there's no reaction - they just continue doing what they were drawn to do. But then there's Pixar, which saves the voice actors' bloopers and animates them later, with appropriate reactions from the animated characters. - The AnimeIowa website has guests listed. Their plans for video gaming didn't work out, so there will be a 4th video room instead. - If you know of any dates to avoid for this fall's anime showings, let Marty know soon. - Variable Geo anime is all about the all-Japan waitress fighting competition. - Ok, let's go to Mindbridge.
