SFLIS Minutes - July 23, 2003 - The Mill is open again. New management, but most of the same staff as before, and they said they'll be happy to have us back. We'll be meeting there again starting next week. - The murder trial in Cedar Rapids is over now. Ms. ____ killed the pizza delivery guy in the living room with the hammer, and we hear the details right here at the meeting. Apparently the accused made a comment to the effect of "Murder someone and get caught on the same day. What a bummer." She kind of gave herself away with that one. Do people become crooks because they're too stupid to do anything else? - We're meeting downstairs tonight because the ice machine upstairs sprung a leak and made things kind of soggy, so the upstairs is closed until they get it cleaned up. - They just put out a couple fresh pizzas, so several of us take a break to go buy a slice or two. - Perhaps we should inform the Mindbridge people about The Mill reopening. - They had an exciting time in Cedar Rapids Sunday night, with trees falling down, power going out, etc. - The Matrix 2 DVD comes out on Oct. 14, 3 weeks before The Matrix 3 opens. Should we show The Matrix 1 and 2 for our Sept. and Oct. movie nights, then go as a group to see #3 when it opens? - A couple people were adversely affected by seeing a few minutes of Ebichuu, the Housekeeping Hamster at our get-together last weekend. Possibly because it contains material that some people would find objectionable. Or funny. Or both. It IS kind of amusing in small doses. But you wouldn't want to make a marathon out of it. - The August issue of Newtype has a Risky/Safety poster. Very cute. - The AnimeIowa prereg deadline is the end of this month. The Collins Plaza is sold out, but other hotels are available. They're what you might call Siamese hotels - joined together at the parking lot. Experts are working to separate them but have found that the concrete that connects them is thicker than anticipated. - Does Gamicon have a date for next year? Are they staying at the same hotel or will they be moving. The hotel it was at this year was pretty reasonable and things would have turned out ok if they'd been able to sell 50 rooms. Maybe they will next year, if they have better advertising, etc. - Come help setup for AnimeIowa on Thursday the 21st and get Mindbridge volunteer points! - Meeting adjourned. Or we assume it is, since everyone's getting up to leave.
