SFLIS Minutes - July 16, 2003 - An ad for an ergonomic keyboard for pirates is passed around. It only has 5 keys - Shift, Enter, !, R, and Avast. - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is pretty cool, but did they have too many explosives for the time period that the story takes place in? - Terminator 3: If you've seen the second one, you've seen this one. But if you want to see Arnold Schwartzenegger fighting a sexy female robot, then go ahead and see it. - Will Alien vs. Predator be any good? Is Bambi vs. Godzilla any good? How about Indiana Jones vs. Han Solo? The Enterprise vs. the Death Star. - Bert and Ernie are puppets. Puppets don't have sex lives. - What happens to the rest of the frog when they harvest it for frog legs? - We've been advised not to see The Hulk. - DMSFS went to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen to get TICC ideas. TICC will be at Worldcon. Does anyone have any ideas for TICC at ICON? Anyone want to write a script? - Anime Quickly Outgrowing Iowa is in a little over a month. We're going to start telling people that they named the state after the anime con. 'You're from Iowa? That's where the anime con is, isn't it?' Anime is an Indian/Native American word for prepubescent women in bikinis who like giant robots. Why do giant robots have hands when other types of appendages would be more practical for attaching weapons to? If you volunteer at AnimeIowa, you earn Mindbridge volunteer credits. Are there any hotel rooms left? There were on Saturday but they might be sold out by now. AnimeIowa will be at the Collins Plaza next year, but they're hoping for someplace bigger for 2005. Like that new convention center in Coralville, if it's finished by then. Anime North is the same weekend as AnimeIowa. It's in Toronto. - On Saturday, we're meeting at Marty's house around one-ish for food, pinball, anime, and whatever else looks good. Bring food if you want, but you don't have to. - There's a crow cleaning itself on top of the skylight. Right above us. Will it leave a gift? If it does, that's ok because it gets washed every time it rains. - Jared has a bunch of games for sale from the 80s and early 90s. You can see an old website of his (not related to the game sale) at obscureno.tuginternet.com. - Now we're talking about listening to crappy pop music by Aqua while gaming. - AnimeIowa is still looking for programming ideas, especially for Sunday. The tradition of having a pinata, which AnimeIowa started, is apparently spreading around the world. There will be karaoke this year. We discuss ideas for future pinatas. This year's con has some aerodynamically neat micro programming. But you'll have to go there to find out what it is. - We talk about shirts with collar stays vs. shirts without. And cowboy-style shirts. And what do real cowboys wear now? - A cow fell down a hill at Lynda once. You can't tip a cow but you CAN tip a waiter. There's a secret level in Doom that's full of cows. - And at this point we decide to end the meeting.
