SFLIS Minutes - July 2, 2003 - We're meeting at Pizza on Dubuque now. At least until we find someplace else to go. - Articles from The Onion and others are passed around. "Newsweek editors argue over what to make readers fear next." - There's a Mindbridge meeting after SFLIS tonight. At Nigel and Susan's, which we think is 936 Sunset, but we're not sure. - Movie night - will the IMU be available in August or will we have to wait till September? For this month, we can follow Jared home after the meeting next week and watch Godzilla vs. King Kong. - Tadao Tomomatsu has a small part in the new Charlie's Angels movie. - Sunday July 6, if the building is unlocked, there will be an anime showing, 1-8pm, Poppajohn Business Bldg. - The Trash Marty's Place event on July 13 may be cancelled or postponed. Maybe we'll do it on the 19th or 26th instead. - A black hole is actually a cursed bag of holding. You can put stuff in it but you can't get it out again. Unless you have one of the Heisenberg compensators from Star Trek. - Should we do an anime/gaming LAN party sometime? - Advertising for SFLIS when the fall semester starts. We can get the display case in the IMU for 2 weeks at a time now. So how do we get people to notice it? We'll include some technology that reads the chips implanted in people's heads and addresses them out loud by name. We can get the other student groups, the university bookstore, etc. to cooperate on providing the chips. - KCRG - news people can get away with anything, and we are entertained with some amusing examples of this. There are classes on how to do banter between newscasters at the beginning and end of the broadcast. - "If at all Possible, Include a Cow" is a book of college pranks that people have done. - There are 4 kinds of Japanese students: 1) Anime freaks 2) People with a Japanese significant other 3) People trying to fulfill a foreign language requirement 4) People who actually care about learning it. You can find the whole article, which is evidently pretty amusing, at http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~thoureau/japanese.html - And we're done.
