SFLIS Minutes - March 26, 2003

- Children of Dune series looks interesting.  On the SciFi network.  Uses
  camera angles other than the usual ones.  People die.  The previous sentence
  contains spoilers.
- Mindbridge meeting next Wednesday.
- Now we're all watching Josh eat noodles while discussing whether we're
  having a meeting.
- They're talking about sending Spirited Away through the theaters again,
  even though the DVD is due out on April 17.
- We watch The Simpsons for a couple minutes.
- The Oscars.  To convert the broadcast from the HDTV version to the standard
  version, they just lopped off the sides of the picture.
  HDTV resolution is 1920x1080, we think.
  Then we move onto some stories about test patterns and equipment at KCRG.
- Can you hook World War 2 teletype machines up to your computer?
  This leads to a discussion of antique computers and printers, and the fact
  that Phillips Hall looks like a giant punch card.
- We have a debate on whether Japanese is an uber-hard foreign language.
- We're showing Star Crash at our movie night 2 weeks from now.
- A bit of talk about video encoding.
- There's an anime showing this Sunday, the 30th. C125 Poppajohn, 1-8pm.
