SFLIS Minutes - February 26, 2003 - We start with some talk about computer programming languages, which will survive. And good GUIs and stuff like that. Some people ignore this and watch The Simpsons instead. - We decide to have a meeting. - We're going to work on a budget to submit. Can we get funding for the Lord of the Rings in December? Theaters aren't official university-approved vendors, and they probably don't take blue recs, which is what the university gives us instead of money. We will try for money for office supplies and AV equipment. And maybe something for another SifCon, SWAMP Fest, or whatever. - Deep Space 9 and Red Dwarf are coming out on DVD. - If anyone wants to be a department head or help out with ICON, email wulvi@hotmail.com. It's ok for a department to have 2 heads. - There's a Mindbridge meeting after SFLIS next week. - 2 weeks from tonight is our next movie night. What should we show? Mad Max in the original Austrailian? Battle Beyond the Stars? Sinbad? Maybe Mad Max in March and Sinbad in April? Or something else? And we'll do something special for May. - SWAMP: It looks like Ghost in the Shell won the vote for the next anime series to go through. - News article from Japan: Exhibitionists to Shed Inhibitions on Invisible Ferris Wheel. - What places around here would make good targets for terrorist attacks? Ones mentioned include an airfield near Omaha, Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, and bridges over the Mississippi. But if they just want to kill as many people as possible, they probably won't choose Iowa. - Someone has developed a new $600 video card for rendering ASCII characters. Supposed to be capable of generating up to 1000 frames per second. - The end.
