SFLIS Minutes - February 19, 2003 - We start by talking about computer programming and the difference between a method, a function, and a procedure. - Movie night happened last week. Avalon, in Polish, subtitled. It was bizarrely good. Especially when you're paying attention. We're wondering what happened to the dog. Night Chills was suggested for next month's movie night. Supposed to be really horrible, very low-budget. - Then there was Gamicon. In keeping with tradition, we had snow. Lots of snow, which did cut down on attendance a bit. But there were a decent number of people there, considering the weather. It was wonderful, lots of games were played. Final count isn't in yet, but there were something like 250 people there. Nobody was arrested, but someone from the fly fishing con may have had their room broken into. The guests were happy. There were Amiga computers and video games from the 80s. For the next Gamicon, the Armory is no longer available. Seems like they want to use it for military purposes now. And the former Westfield has some serious (and sometimes quite amusing) problems. It looks like Cedar Rapids and probably the Clarion for next year, but nothing's been decided for sure yet and that could change. - Con of the North is this weekend. It's like Gamicon, but in Minneapolis. - We're going to submit a budget using imaginary numbers. Like 4i+3. - 2 weeks till the next Mindbridge meeting. 3 weeks till the next movie night. - The software for putting the disaster alerts on screen at KCRG, besides tornadoes and hail, it can do tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. When was the last time we had one of those in Iowa? Does it warn of plagues of locusts? - A Demicon flyer for Martha Mildar is passed around. But she doesn't exist, so that's ok. - Buffy the Vampire Slayer is becoming more and more irrational. - News article: "Starship Troopers to Shoot Sequel." This may be one case where the sequel is better than the original. - Now we're talking about Deep Space 9. - The Onion and News of the Week are passed around. - A bunch of conversations are going on at once now. - And the meeting is declared officially done.
