SFLIS Minutes - September 25, 2002

- What should we show for our next movie night?  Flesh Gordon 2, Attack of
  the Cosmic Cheerleaders.  Killer Klowns from Outer Space.  Night of the
  Lepus.  Or something else.
- Spirited away is in theaters now but unfortunately, it's only playing in
  California and in the New York/New Jersey area.
  From the reviews/comments about it, it sounds like they tried to select
  English voices to match the original Japanese ones.
  This leads to some comments about bad dubs people have seen where the voice
  actors keep switching accents.
- Mindbridge picnic is Saturday at Morrison Park in Coralville.
  They're forecasting a high in the 50s.  Cool!
- SFLIS get-together at Marty's last Friday was fun for those who showed up.
  Watched some videos, played pinball, battle solitaire on the big projection
  screen (2 people with cordless mice fighting over the mouse pointer).
- There's an arcade auction in Des Moines on Saturday.  May or may not be a
  report on it next week.  Never hurts to ask.
  www.klov.com has a list of all arcade games ever made.
  Side art for arcade game machines - there's one with a picture of two
  women in spandex pulling on each other's hair.  Really tacky.
- We share our arcade memories.  Such as the original Mario Brothers game, and
  the long line for it when the U of I first got it.  Pinball machines with
  electro-mechanical score displays.
  DDR = Dance Dance Revolution.  Remember that.  You may need to know it,
  since it's hugely popular now.
- Next Wednesday we'll have SFLIS, then a premindbridge meeting (AnimeIowa
  supercommittee (maybe taking place at the same time as SFLIS but not
  necessarily in the same location (since it's a Mindbridge thing, not a
  SFLIS thing))), then a Mindbridge meeting.
- How many Mindbridge members does it take to change a light bulb?
  Well, first you form a supercommittee to discuss it, then......
  We never did come up with the exact number.
- Flyer for Minicon 38.  Every year the con's number increases but attendance
  decreases.  Will the two numbers be equal sometime?
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack CD is available.
- And now, a discussion of how to build your own cheap universal power supply.
  Connect a bunch of car batteries together, maybe?  Or build one out of
  bamboo and coconuts.  Which leads us to Gilligan's Island.
- Sunday at 9pm on WB is the season premier of Buffy.
  Season premier of Enterprise was last week.  Apparently, the quality was
  better if you had poor reception.
