SFLIS Minutes - September 18, 2002 - SFLIS get-together Friday the 20th, 6pm at Marty's. Directions are passed around. Not directions exactly, but a birds-eye view with the house circled. Might be some bad vegetarian pizzas there. Street Fighter 2 pinball and several others, video games, and anime. - We discuss some of the more noteworthy features of the city of University Heights. - And then we move on to the possibilities of dropping and adding classes 4 weeks into the semester, and changing majors for the second time in three weeks. And going on academic probation so you don't have to do anything. Then there's a brief mention of Final Fantasy X, then some talk about skipping classes for a week and a half. And if you conitnue doing this, how long would it take you to graduate? Or would you graduate? - And somehow we end up on the subject of hitting animals with your car. Or animals using your car to commit suicide. - Anime on Sunday the 22nd. C125 Poppajon Business Admin. Bldg. 1-8pm. Vandred won the vote for the new dubbed series to go through. Will also be showing Ground Defense Force Mao-chan. - A chemistry lesson. The difference between elemental and ionized mercury is explained. Ionized mercury is short a couple electrons and if you get it on you, it makes love to your nerve cells so you die faster. Chemistry is like a big sex orgy. Fluorine and Chlorine are skanky. Pharmacists are the ones who.......ok, that's enough of that. - There's a swing dancing club at the university that meets Monday nights at 8. Not sure about the location. - Forrest Ackerman is selling his house. Or rather, the memorabilia in it. - For the October anime shows, one of them might be for new action anime. Might show the End of Evangelion. Might be a 'best hits' show sometime, with popular stuff that was shown at past shows. We discuss sports anime - Slam Dunk, Princess 9, and others. One Piece has been licensed. - ICON is 4 weeks from Friday. The anime room is small, so what should we show to keep people away? Something really bad? Or maybe something good that's just not very popular. Suggestions include Astro Boy, Princess Knight, Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar, Hikary no Go, Tokyo Mew Mew. Or maybe give in and show something popular like Cho Bits. - Now we talk about giant robots and building pyramids. - Gaylactic awards for gay, lesbian - related SF. - Demicon is thinking about moving to Easter weekend? It might be safe to do that, now that Minicon has gotten so small. Will Minicon contract so much that it becomes a black hole and sucks everything else in? And should AnimeIowa adopt some of their strategies. Probably not a good idea - we just want to keep it to a managable size, not kill it. A few more ideas for AnimeIowa - they're already not doing any advertising. How about raising the registration fee? Or having the website be down every other day. Or attendance by invitation only, fill out a questionaire on the website to see if you qualify. Or maybe not. - And we end the meeting with a discussion of video projection systems.
