SFLIS Minutes - July 17, 2002 - There are plans to make a movie based on Legos' Bionicles. Trivia question: How many movies can you name that were based on toys? Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony. But these were all tv series first. Pokemon? We think it started out as a game, then toys, then a tv series. What we're looking for is a movie based on a toy that was not a game or a tv series first. Hmmmm......was there a Barbie movie? We'll think about this some more. - At the anime show on the 28th, TBA will be shown. Everyone here has seen 'TBA' lots of times, and for some strange reason, it's never the same two times in a row. Also will be showing other masterpieces of Japanese animation such as 'UFO Princess Valkyrie' and others that just came out within the past month. - For the trivia question: He Man and the Masters of the Universe? No, it was a tv series first. And it can't be based on a video game, so Mario Brothers is out. - News article: Gates' Mansion Overrun by Incontinent Geese. So what is he going to do with these 4200 geese? - We're still waiting for a reply from the university about getting a table for the Weeks of Welcome in August. - Now we're taking a break to measure a really long piece of spaghetti. It's a little over 1 1/2 cubits. - Let's pick a time and a movie to go to together in the future. The Two Towers is a pretty good bet for December. Is there anything good before then? How about if we each pay $7 for a $6.50 ticket and let the person who organizes it keep the extra? - Speaking of movies, there's supposedly going to be lots of extra stuff added to the Lord of the Rings deluxe DVD set, might end up being a 4-hour movie, with a rap soundtrack. Indiana Jones 4 is supposed to be out in 2005, starring Harrison Ford in his 60s. We speculate about what he'll be doing in it. - Which has the best news: Comedy Central or CNN? - How about a SFLIS video game night? Or a pinball night? Now we're talking about constructor games, computer games that let you design the layout yourself. Design your own racecourse, pinball machine, etc. And we discuss the merits of violent video games like Carnage and Serious Sam. - And then we leave. - And about the trivia question: We never did come up with an answer.
