SFLIS Minutes - July 10, 2002 - There's a movie on tv. Some guys on an island with a storm going on. We try to figure out what it is. In color, looks like World War 2. - A news article is passed around: "Software Pirate Feels Like He's Being Ripped Off by Computer Game Companies." - Now the movie has switched to a Japanese wedding. - Old business: They're colonizing the New World now. Aliens build the pyramids. There's a new invention called the guiilotine. - We talk some more about what to put on the SFLIS flyer. - We're showing Galaxy Quest tonight after Mindbridge, which is after SFLIS. Next movie night will be the 2nd Wednesday in August. Probably X-Men and Shrek. Other suggestions include Aliens and Delicatessan. This led to a discussion about which of the Alien movies was the best. Then someone mentioned movies with dragons and we ended up talking about the D & D movie. - We try to guess again what movie is showing on the tv right now. Something about World War 2 in the Pacific. - The AnimeIowa prereg deadline is quickly approaching. July 31. - The movie is over now. Now we're watching the 3 Stooges. - Anime Expo was this past weekend, with 5-digit attendance. Lots of announcements of titles being licensed - 30 or 40 of them. - Gino Dykstra was showing his Star Trek miniatures at Northside Books the last couple weeks. They might still be there. He does this professionally and some of them have been used in movies. - Convergence was last weekend. A souvenier book is passed around. Also books of stuff from the writing contests, and other souveniers. They had a rule against fondling the artwork. They had both sculptures and other types of stuff. You had to use your imagination when fondling the 2-dimensional artwork. - Idea for ICON: have a story and make everyone add a line to it when they register. On second thought, that would slow down the registration line too much. It would be better to put it in the consuite. - The Wylde Nept CD is out. They'll be selling it at their next show. - We're done.
