SFLIS Minutes - July 3, 2002 - Convergence is this weekend. - BBC to revive Dr. Who next year. Is this for real or just a rumor? Somebody's saying that the BBC has hired a scriptwriter from Buffy to work on a new Dr. Who series, but the BBC says they haven't. - News article: A guy from North Carolina bought a case of expensive cigars, insured them against fire, smoked them, then filed a claim saying they were all destroyed in a series of small fires. The insurance company was forced to pay because they didn't specify which types of fires were covered. - A toy robot that transforms into a firetruck, or vice versa, is at the meeting today. - The presidents aren't here today, so who's in charge? - Who will play Dr. Who if they do make more of them? - Men in Black 2: If you've seen the first one, you've seen this one. - Now we have some amusing stories involving embarrassing things to do with a tv station's live van. Like take it through a low-clearance drive thru, or extend the antenna through some high voltage power lines. We hear about some unfortunate people's experiences. - Minicon. Has it bottomed out yet? Will it be able to recover? - And now for some reason, we're talking about fire poles and what's the best way to get back up if you change your mind after sliding down one, and a winch that can take you up a 2000 foot tower as you hear the cable stretching while the tower sways in the wind. Which way will a tower go if it falls? It depends on which of the guywires breaks. KCRG's Hiawatha tower was hit by a small plane in the '60s. - Next week after SFLIS we have Mindbridge, followed by Galaxy Quest. - Wouldn't it be nice to see some outtakes from Junkyard Wars, showing some of the disasters and accidents that happen? How about something like that for ICON? An SF-related Junkyard Wars type of thing. - More entertaining behind-the-scenes stories from KCRG. - Does anyone want a freeze dryer? Or a stand-up freezer full of containers that say 'Danger - toxic?' - And we end with some high speed internet access and caps on downloads.
