SFLIS Minutes - August 14, 2002 - SF News of the Week is passed around. Buffy news is listed first again. - Nobody here can remember when ICON is, even though the Mindbridge meeting was last week and they just sent out flyers. - On the tv right now, there's what looks like a documentary about heavy metal music. Seems to be mostly 80s stuff. - Movie night after the meeting tonight. X-Men and/or Shrek. - The AnimeIowa prereg count is over 700 now. To avoid running out of space, the con may be going into stealth mode for a while. We try to come up with some ways to keep attendance limited to what the Collins Plaza can handle. Like making next year's con invitation-only. Or have people take a test to see if they're 'qualified.' Or making it open only to residents of Iowa. No, then they'd lose a lot of their staff and volunteers. Or do a Minicon-type thing: turn it into a 'literary' convention. MangaIowa, anyone? And we make several other suggestions which, like these, will probably never be taken seriously by anyone. At least we HOPE no one takes them seriously. Is there any place to move it to that doesn't require changing the name of the con? Des Moines, maybe? How about having it at the fairgrounds? Have the panels in the cattle barns, etc. Ok, enough of that. - Let Marty know as soon as possible if you have any events this fall on a Sunday afternoon that would conflict with an anime showing. The first show will probably be Sept. 8. - New people at the meeting today! We do some quick introductions. - Looks like we have the SFLIS website problem taken care of. We have a username, password, and machine name/address. Just got them today. Now we just need to try them and see if they work. - Meeting's over. It's movie time now, except for those who are working on pinatas or tshirts.
