SFLIS Minutes - April 10, 2002 - We're hiding today. Haven't been in THIS room in a long time. - What is "yellow English?" The movie we're watching tonight says it's in "French with yellow English subtitles." Yes, it's movie night tonight, in the IMU after SFLIS. Not sure about the room number but it's on the schedules that they post at the entrances to the building. We'll be watching "Les Visiteurs" and it should be better than Evolution was. - Is there any old business? How about really old business? Yes. 3 years ago we were talking about getting some money to bring in guest speakers. We have that now. Or a lot of it anyway. It's in our university budget for this coming year. - If more than 40 people show up for a meeting it becomes an 'event.' - Vampire Hunter D at the last anime show was good, but what came after it was 'crap.' That's one person's opinion, anyway. And what was this 'crap?' It was 'Full Metal Panic.' The next anime show is this Sunday, April 14, 1-8pm, Poppajohn Business Bldg. The anniversary show is April 28. - We start discussing Miyazaki movies, then almost get into a discussion of Star Trek Deep Space 9, but stop ourselves at the last minute. My Neighbors the Yamadas - some really varied opinions about it. One person argues that it's one of the worst of all time while others say that it's good, but appeals to an older audience. Then we talk about Buffy. - Tonight's movie is in French with English subtitles. Kind of like anime, but with real people. The relationship between AnimeIowa and Mindbridge has been in discussion for a couple years and both sides seem open to the idea, but nobody's gotten around to doing anything about it. Caffinated mints are passed around. - DemiCon is May 3-5. DemiCon 13, with a horror theme. - We try to decide what to talk about next. How about rates of absorption of chemicals in the human body. The psychology department may need volunteers for brain scans to use as controls in an experiment. Probably isn't any money in it, but if you want a really cool picture of your brain...... Mercury body armor, cooled to -40 to make it hard. And the difference between algebra and linear algebra. - It's time for the movie.
