SFLIS Minutes - April 3, 2002 - The back is open but the lights are off. They turn the lights on and we go back there. - Linda is back and everyone says hi. We introduce our newest/youngest member. There are a lot of current and former SFLIS presidents here today. - There's a Mindbridge meeting at 6:30 tonight, right here, right after SFLIS. - Legends is gone. The SFLIS PO box is also gone because we haven't used it in a while. - An Astro Boy toy/keychain. When you open the lid, you can see Astro Boy and his girlfriend swaying together with his arm around her. We hope they're supposed to be flying. - Book discussion at Barnes & Noble on Tuesday evening, April 16. Maximum Ice by Kay Kenyon. It's about some space gypsies who leave earth, then come back to find it mostly covered with ice. There are strong female characters, especially the ice gnomes. - Next SWAMP anime show is April 14. - SAGA meets Saturday at 2pm somewhere in the IMU. The room number will be posted on the schedules they have at the entrances to the building. From 2 until everyone decides to leave, any time up to 11pm. - Lots of talk about D20 versions of games and an event at Origins where to know what's going on, you have to read the article in Dragon Magazine first. - Movie night after SFLIS next week, with the French movie, Les Visiteurs. - Blade 2. If you go and don't expect too much, it's pretty good. The animation leaves a lot to be desired. It's not exactly a cartoon, but close enough. The plot is a little thin, but if you like action, it's not too bad. Has anyone seen Panic Room? Not yet. Does anyone watch the X-Files any more? It's going to end soon. D&D episode of Dexter's Laboratory. It's an old episode, but new to this area. New Farscape episode on the Sci-Fi channel Friday. They also might be making a miniseries of Joe Haldeman's 'Forever War.' That's the rumor anyway. - We have some comments from our youngest member. Unfortunately, she's not old enough to speak English yet. People volunteer to take turns burping her. - How to spend the money for the D&D volunteers from a year and a half ago. It's going to happen someday. Really. - Some creative uses for 12-sided dice. And 2-sided dice. Maybe even 1-sided dice. - The Gamicon folks may be doing some gaming at AnimeIowa. They would like some advice/suggestions from people who run anime type games. Anime Cthulu? - Wylde Nept is playing somewhere in May. - There's a diversity conference at the IMU on Thursday. - Did anyone here go to Minicon. We heard it was good, maybe 500 people there. At this rate, it will be smaller than ICON before too long. - The meeting is deteriorating, but we need to make it last until 6:30. - Weekend in Ravensbluff at the IMU April 19-21. $5 to participate. - Kenny permanently died in South Park. Or did he? We have a discussion.... A small amount of Iowa City water every day makes you immune to almost everything. How long has the Simpsons been on? What does it mean if you dream that you're Amish? What would Amish SF be like? - Enough of that, it's time for Mindbridge.
