SFLIS Minutes - September 26, 2001 - This year's ICON TICC skit will be.....different. The number of ICON attendees jumped last week. - Jackie Chan vs. Iron Chef. - New anime flyers were passed around. They even have a parental warning on them. 8 new members at the last show. The percentage of females in the membership is increasing. - Should we organize an expedition to Lord of the Rings? It opens Dec. 19 maybe. If it's on a Wednesday, should we have our meeting in the theater lobby? - On Dec. 8 there's a party for those who helped with the D&D World Tour. It will be catered and there will probably be lots of extra food, so even if you weren't there for the D&D, come anyway. - Movie night on the 2nd Wednesday of October. It will probably be Time Bandits. Other suggestions include Barbarella, City of Lost Children, Delicatessan. - Is the Enterprise tv series going to be any good? We think it starts this Saturday. - If the university starts taking corporate sponsorships, what would they rename the buildings to? The Burger King Memorial Union? Should they get rid of the unprofitable things like education and just concentrate on the sports and research? How long has Burge been a party dorm? - They're working on the 20th James Bond film. - Still waiting for the Buffy DVD set. The Japanese one has been out for a while now. - Star Trek on the Nashville Network. Hee Haw, the Next Generation? There's a pretty hilarious parody out there somewhere. How about combining it with the Dukes of Hazzard? - And a lot of wandering discussion of movies and tv shows. Highlander Endgame is better than Highlander 2 and 3 (which we're pretending don't exist). Some comments on how awful #2 is. It's even too bad for MST3K. If you watch it, it will ruin #1 for you. Now we move on to the Phantom, which is also really awful. But the Captain America movie from 50+ years ago is good. Spiderman got pushed back so they could edit out the Word Trade Center. A couple examples of good comic book movies: the first Superman movie and X-Men. In X-Men Evolution, how does Wolverine keep from accidentally slicing people up? The 60s Batman tv series. The Incredible Hulk. If the A-Team met the Incredible Hulk..... And why don't people ever figure out that Clark Kent is Superman? How does going around the sun really fast in a spaceship make you travel through time? Star Trek 4 where they went back in time to save the whales. And sex in Star Trek. And various incarnations of Star Trek. A Death Star full of Jar-Jars. Where did they come up with the names for the characters in Battlestar Galactica? Battlestar Galactica, with disco! And Knight Rider, Airwolf, the Greatest American Hero, Mantis......Ah, those were the days (or were they?) Why don't people shoot Superman with Kryptonite bullets? Or use any other types of Kryptonite weapons? Wonder Twin powers, activate! etc.
