SFLIS Minutes - September 12, 2001 - Prereg deadline for ICON is Monday. You can register right here at the meeting. The ICON website has been updated in the last 6 months. - The password for the SFLIS webpage is transferred to our new Web Guru. And the password is.......a combination of characters typed into a computer to gain access to an account. - Both Joshes are here, or we have a two-headed president. - There's a new con that coincides with the opening of the next Star Wars movie, but we're not sure what it's called. - Mindbridge picnic Saturday Sept. 15, Shelter #4 in Upper City Park. 5-9pm. There will be food there. It's a thank-you to members and also a membership drive. There's no alcohol allowed at the shelter, but you can bring food if you want. There may be a non-alcoholic fish drink. - Fellowship game day Sept. 22 at Legends, 10am. Greyhawk, Living City. Lots of undead things will be there. - Fields of Honor is in Des Moines the week after ICON. - SWAMP got 7 new members at the show Sunday, mostly students. If this keeps up, we might end up with mostly students in our student group. - We have a desk at the Student Activities Center, so please take books from it. We donated 2 boxes of them to the University Hospital. Should we send some to the relief effort in New York? - There are still some of last year's Right Stuf catalogs left if anyone wants one. - We would like to reinstate the SFLIS movie nights. How about the second Wednesday of the month, after the meeting? - Next Wednesday there's a discussion of Zodiac by Neil Stephenson at Barnes & Noble, 7pm. - The Wyndsong Theater in Cedar Rapids lost a screen last week. (Did someone walk off with it? Did they misplace it?) They also had a power failure that only affected digital stuff, so all the sound had to be analogue. - Fox 28 & 40 will apparently be showing Buffy and Enterprise late at night this fall. WB 20 will be showing the old Buffy episodes on weekends, Sat. and Sun. at 6. - Do we want to see the Harry Potter movie since the book won a Hugo? How about a Harry Potter pinata at ICON? - Has anyone heard about the guy from The Invisible Man? Nope, nobody's seen him. - Chaka Con was in Waterloo last weekend. It happened. People played games. One of the modules was written by Josh and Michele. Over $240 was raised for charity. - Nobody here is a member of ISCA, but SFLIS use to have strong ties to it (if you've ever wondered why this forum exists). There was some discussion of ISCA meetings. They have a web page, but it doesn't say where or when they meet. Or if they meet at all. Does the group still exist as a student organization? - Let's do another SifCon. We can get the ballroom again. We need a weekend. Last weekend of the semester is Winter Pif. - Next week, bring events and dates so we can put them on the new SFLIS bookmark. If you have an old bookmark to use as a model for the new one, bring it. - Anyone want to run a LARP at ICON? - Space pirates at Serendipity was fun, but not many people showed up. - The meeting is sold to the scapegoat.
