SFLIS Minutes - November 7, 2001 - Harry Potter happy meals, Teenagers from Outer Space roleplaying, and Lord of the Rings onion rings. - What does chlorine dioxide look like? - Josh is paying for everyone's food because he just got a humongous raise. Now all we have to do is convince him. - Interesting music tonight. Not sure where it's from, but it's not in English. - SFLIS movie night next week, right after the meeting. - A discussion of Deep Space 9 almost erupted, but we managed to stop it in time. - Lots of discussions going on at once. To get an idea of what it's like, just pick some words at random from the dictionary and put them together. - Movies/TV: Harry Potter is coming out. Has anybody seen Fantastic Voyage where they're trying to peel the antibodies off of Raquel Welch? Has Buffy been boring lately? The scene where she was fighting the three nerds was pretty good. Columbia-TriStar has shut down its tv production, changing the face of network tv forever. Now what shows did they produce? Can anyone name any? We come up with a few. Pixar gives special thanks to Steve Jobs. Monsters, Inc. is really funny and has excellant graphics. Go see it if you get a chance. The movie is almost overshadowed by the previews - Lord of the Rings, Peter Pan 2 (it's not a sequel), Star Wars Ep. 2, etc. - Chick O Sticks - are they good or bad? And a deep philosophical discussion of Sixlets vs. M&Ms. - If Darth Vader made R2D2 and C3PO, why doesn't he acknowledge them in the original 3 movies? Why didn't he destroy them when he destroyed the Jedi? We decide to ignore the fact that the first movie was made 20 years before Episode 1. Did the stormtroopers always miss because they used Microsoft products? Every time they pick up a new weapon, did they have to call Microsoft to get a registration number? There's a pretty funny Star Wars/Ranma fanfic. Why does the Death Star always have a weakness? Maybe the exhaust vent was intended to be a dunk tank for the storm troopers family picnic. More detailed info about the Star Wars universe comes from the role playing game. Jar Jar only has one scene in Episode 2. What if Yoda was evil? Wouldn't that be scary. And much more Star Wars silliness. Spaceballs - should we show it next month? Now everyone's quoting lines from it. - We all suddenly get up and leave.
