SFLIS Minutes - May 30, 2001

- Nothing much is happening yet.
- The Idiot's Guide to Publishing Science Fiction.  But do we really
  want idiots publishing it?
- All good SF shows are moving to UPN, which we can't get here.
  Voyager ended without killing off the entire cast.  Some people are
  disappointed by this.
  Possible new UPN station in Waterloo being sued by KWWL because of
  the similarity of their call letters.  We come up with a few suggestions
  for call letters.  KUPN?  Probably already in use.  How about something
  that makes a word?  KWAK?
  Why does channel 15 from Ottumwa come in clearer than most of the
  Cedar Rapids stations?
  Buffy, Red Dwarf, Red Green, Dr. Who, etc.
  Can the Red Green Show be considered science fiction?  Well, there's
  Handyman's Corner....and Ranger Gord's cartoons.
  Just because two people are from Canada doesn't mean they know each
  other.
- Anyone interested in a writers' group?  This one's really going to
  happen.
  If you publish a time and say there are free snacks, people will come.
  Don't know if there will be snacks or not, but if you're interested,
  the writers' group will meet at 8pm Mondays at Griesel's apartment.

  From 8pm until people get tired or they kick you out.
  Planning to start on Monday June 4, but you should probably ask to

  Will probably discuss some ground rules and plans for future meetings
  to start with.
- An idea for a panel at ICON.  Last year we had 'Is this fight scene
  possible?' with Babes with Blades attempting to act them out.
  This year, how about 'Is this sex scene possible?'  where we will try
  to act them out and see.  Now, who wants to volunteer?
- Our excess money is gone - we didn't meet the deadline.  But we still
  have money in our bank account.
- Mindbridge meeting on Sunday June 3.  Aiming for noon.
  City Park, Iowa City, shelter 1, rain or shine.
  It should be above the water level, but bring your own floatation device
  just in case.
- Summer Pif is at the IMU next weekend.
- MageCon North in Sioux Falls was ok.  New Star Wars game with everyone
  playing Wookies and speaking Wookie very loudly - lots of fun.
  Lots of other games and the creator of Knights of the Dinner Table.
  Lots of gaming companies, and Bob's Guns.
- Anime show Sunday, 1-8, C107 Poppajohn Business Admin Bldg.
- And some random stuff:
  ICON will be good this year, and even better next year.
  David Weber will be in Columbia, Missouri next June.
  Is Tama a suburb of Toledo or is Toledo a suburb of Tama?
  The Fieldhouse is a meat market on Friday and Saturday nights.  Do people
  come out wearing the same clothes they went in with?  According to
  Josh's law of conservation of clothing, if you take the group as a
  whole, yes they do.
  SFLIS Monopoly game:
    Go to Jail = Get Elected.
    Marty Gardens, where instead of the number of houses, you count the
    number of screens showing anime.
    Railroads = Bookstores
    Utilities = places selling pizza and drinks.  Or maybe game companies.
