SFLIS MINUTES - January 31, 2001 - There were no minutes last week, since the secretary missed the meeting. - Talk about job training and breaking things. - Winter Fantasy: Modules were run as they were being written, which made the gaming kind of interesting at times. The most popular event was the Temple of Elemental Evil. - New anime con in Cleveland last week. OhayoCon. It was evidently pretty good, since 650 people travelled to Cleveland in January for it. - Do we want to do a SifCon this year? We have money for it. Watch videos, play games, eat junk food. When should we do it? Possibly combine it with the SWAMP thing and have it in May, get the whole 2nd floor of the IMU. We don't have a date for the SWAMP thing yet. Might end up being in April. Mindbridge could have a meeting at the same time. - There's an anime show Sunday, 1-8pm, C125 PBAB. - Rumor has it that there's a con in February and today's the preregistration deadline. - If you go to see Sugar & Spice (cheerleader bank robbers, pretty entertaining, actually), you can see a trailer for the Lord of the Rings. Looks pretty cool. Fellowship of the Ring in Dec. 2001, The Two Towers in December 2002, etc. - The Star Trek vehicle that was available for auction a month or so ago sold for almost $3000. - Atilla starts tonight. - Gordon Dickson died. - Sega Dreamcast has gone by the wayside now, so you should be able to get it really cheap. Maybe. Dreamcast PDA. Eek! Geek? Squeak! - Next book for discussion is Helm, by Stephen Gould. - Let's make a black monolith in honor of 2001. What was the date that it appeared? How can we get all the university's computers to sing "Daisy, Daisy...?" Maybe if they're daisy-chained together. - You don't need a student ID card to get to the SFLIS desk. Just ignore that card-swipe thing on the door and act like you own the place. - The person who made this next announcement doesn't want too many people to know about it, so I'll leave out the consonants. AI 5 oe ae o uu a ie i ao 10 i o au. - According to our records, there are 28,000 people at an average SWAMP show. May want to amend that, make it a decimal point instead of a comma. - We come up with some ideas for Sif-con. We need to find out who teaches SF classes on campus and let them know we exist. Book burning of Harry Potter books? But who's going to pay for them? video game room, art show, skit, opening and closing ceremonies, cosplay, hall costume contest, miniature painting, anime "Name That Tune," Sci-Fi Jeopardy, 3-D movie with glasses, give away books from the SFLIS desk, panels, gaming, swap meet, show SF videos and anime. - How about donating some SF books to the University hospital library. A discussion of how we could market ourselves to the hospital. SFLIS - more than just a disease. Got SFLIS? - Wylde Nept is at Grizzley's on Saturday night. Near the Adult Marketplace and Pleasure Palace. They'll also be at the Mill on the 10th. - That's it for this week. [SFLIS Fandom And Gin> msg #8766 (47 remaining)] Read cmd -> Next
