SFLIS Minutes - January 17, 2001

- How about choosing one SFLIS meeting each month and making it an official
  Mindbridge meeting?
  The last Mindbridge meeting was when?  March or April?
- Anime show fliers were passed around.  First show of the semester is Jan. 21,
  1-8pm, C125 Pappajohn.
- Supercon is next weekend in Rochester, MN.  $25 or $35 or something like that
  at the door.
- Gamicon is Feb. 23-25 at the Ramada Westfield.  Fliers were passed around.
  If you weren't at the meeting, you'll probably get one in the mail.  Even
  if you were at the meeting, you'll probably get one in the mail.
  Average attendance at Gamicon is about 300.
- Movies and TV:  How about a Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy movie with
  Jim Carrey as Zaphod Beeblebrox?
  Or a new live-action superheroes show, Thor.
- Now we have several conversations going on at once, and it sounds something
  like this:
  Credit card things.  Dude, Where's My Car.  What is the correct way to say
  'Dude?'  Dracula 2000 is ok.  Where is it playing?  CD player.  Hotel rooms
  for this weekend.  Vampires tapping the subconscious party syllabus as big
  as a textbook for Spanish compression on DVDs naked pasta - someone cover it!              Alien detector on the table-if you look at it and it's flashing, you're an
  alien.  It's flashing for everyone, so.....
  Role playing games, pixels as big as your hand, attacks and defense in RPGs,
  copy protecting schemes for recorded media extending to hard drives,
  Godfather's at 7. Applesauce.  Donald Duck in Math Magic Land.
  3 ways of splicing film together.
- Book discussion at Barnes&Noble tonight:  The Godfather by Terry Pratchett.
  All you need to know is squeak.
- Shooting rubber bands.
- Rolling blackouts in California.  Aluminum smelters have shut down because
  they can get more money selling electricity.
- Meeting is over.  Did it ever start?
