SFLIS Minutes - February 28, 2001 (just a little bit late) - Strange people were seen at Gamicon, either the result of drugs or lots of alcohol. Seemed to be hotel employees, mostly. The conversation then moved on to drive-thru liquor stores. - Gamicon was a success, in spite of the weather and limited advertising. The combat demo was pretty cool - should we sponsor them at the U of I? A late-night game with characters based on The A Team. - Our budget request was submitted on time. - Where is it ok to have alcohol at the university? - SifCon is on Easter. Should we do something with a theme? Considering some of the suggestions made at the meeting.......Do we want to be allowed to do this again? Maybe we should stick to eggs and bunnies. - Nike Xena and Gabriel missiles. - TV/Movies: Yesterday's Buffy was mediocre. But at least they killed something. Possible sequel to the Stargate movie with actors from the tv series. McGuyver Ad seen during the Superbowl - some type of knights/jousting movie coming out this summer? PSI Factor - anyone seen it? With Dan Ackroyd and the Max Headroom guy. New Battlestar Galactica series. How many of the original actors are still alive? Will Star Wars Episode 1 ever come out on DVD? Flashbacks: Ewoks - Battle for Endor. The moon of Endor. What's the difference between a moon and a planet? - The Navy is creating a new position, naming it after Heinline (Hinlein, Heinlein? How do you spell it?) - There's a SWAMP show Sunday. (Actually, there WAS a SWAMP show Sunday the 4th). 3 episodes on videotape, 4 episodes on DVD, and the rest off of CD-ROM or hard drive. The Ah My Goddess movie takes up over 400 megabytes of disk space and sounds like it was recorded in the theater. - Should we start a pool on how long William Shatner's new wife lasts? Ha ha ha.....get it? - More SifCon stuff. How about a full-page ad in the Daily Iowan? Got SFLIS? With a good- looking scantily-clad young woman to go with it? That way, we can also make headlines the next day about how tasteless the ad is. Many more tasteless suggestions. Should we put a hidden message in the ad? Who wants to design our "Got SFLIS" ad? In the works are a possible costume contest, maybe cell painting, video games. Will we need to get TVs for use with Nintendo and Sega, etc? If so, how many? - And the meeting abruptly ends.
