SFLIS Minutes - December 26, 2001 - "Imposter" movie, king of SF-ish, coming out on Jan. 4. It's probably too late to organize an expedition to it. Supposedly, it's about a dude who's a top scientist who wakes up one day as a wanted android with a bomb stuck in his body. Speaking of SFLIS at the movies, Star Wars is coming out in May. Might be a good time to think about planning something. - SAGA is considering whether to be a separate student organization or a division of SFLIS (like SWAMP is). - Lord of the Rings was pretty good. Frodo is from Cedar Rapids. Kept the flavor of the book pretty well, but there's no way they could show everything, even though the movie was 3 hours long. Had dark riders with insects oozing out of the ground. The elves were very luminous. Maybe too much so? Did the Shire look a little like Teletubby land? - Marty is in the process of deciding when to schedule the anime shows next semester. It might not be possible to avoid all the other SF- related events going on this time. Having shows every other weekend might be a problem, so the schedule might end up being a little irregular. Will try to avoid Gamicon Lite, Anime Central, Demicon, etc. Maybe show bunny anime on Easter? - Should we have a Sif Fest this year? Right now it looks like we probably won't - might not be any money for it. We'll discuss it some more when the other co-president and treasurer are here. Can we get around the rule about not serving our own food in the IMU by having edible decorations? - The villains in all the children's cartoons for the last 40 years are all clones of the Wicked Witch of the West, no matter what sex they are. - Now there's a bit of discussion of how the Lord of the Rings cartoon compares with the current movie. - Any new business? Doug got his CD-ROM to work really good. Goes at a full 8X speed now! - What did everyone get for Christmas? A city full of flesh-eating zombies. And violent video games. - Gamicon Lite will be concentrated on Feb. 9 with spillover in either direction. It's in the IMU, it's free, and will have a wide variety of stuff. Hours of enjoyment while sober and with your clothes on! (Nobody here knows what goes on when they play adult dalmuti at ICON. (But there won't be any of that at Gamicon Lite anyway.)) - Alcohol and other substances for use in the lab. A pinball machine parts document that won't print page 10. Interesting stuff found while cleaning out the lab: a really old bottle with animal parts in it, with a wooden stopper and German on the label. No idea how old it is, or even what century it's from. - The president assets his authority and officially ends the meeting. Everyone is in awe over this spectacular display of power. - Now that the meeting's over, we talk about an anhydrous ammonia spill that threatens Des Moines' water supply, and moronic things that people did in '93.
