SFLIS Minutes - December 5, 2001 - Methods of studying while watching tv. If you're not careful, it might have the same effect as Rimmer's memory drugs. "I just memorized this entire conversation." - Marty can move steel balls around the tabletop without touching them. (Just pretend you don't see the magnet.) An antique 20-gig hard drive from 3-4 years ago. 10 platters, heavy, and about 4 inches thick. It's passed around so everyone can admire their reflection in the platters. If you look close enough, can you see any of the data? People have a surprising amount of fun playing with it. You can see some interesting visual effects if you hold it up to your eyes and look between the platters. - CDs with copy protection have problems in a car CD player. So far, they've only done it to country CDs. And people make comments about it being ok as long as it's just country (unless it's Johnny Cash). And now we have a little discussion about Johnny Cash and his music. - Winter Pif is this weekend. Starts at 3 on Friday and goes all the way to Sunday. Once again, somebody asks what 'pif' means. So, what does it mean? - Lord of the Rings is 2 weeks from tonight. 9pm show at Sycamore Mall. Come to SFLIS at 5:30, stay for Mindbridge, then go to the movie. We will be buying the tickets ahead of time so only one person will have to stand in line. - There will be an official concom get together for ICON at The Cottage on Saturday, sometime during the day. Nobody is sure what time it is, so just show up when they open and stay all day. - New game: Take the ball off the magnet. And now the magnet and balls are passed around. - Did anyone see the lightning, thunder, waterfall from the sky, the rainbow, and the orange sky at sunset today? Is this really December? - When is finals week? It starts in a week and a half. - Jack Kirby (not the vacuum guy) died. He did the art for the Discworld novels. - SAGA. The constitution has been officially rejected. Need to make one small change and resubmit it. - SWAMP had a show last weekend. People showed up, more than expected, considering the subject matter. There was a bit of heckling during Magical Fairy Persia and Cutey Honey. This Sunday will be the real December anime show. 1-8 pm, S207 Poppajohn. Everyone's membership expires, so if you want to borrow videos from the club library, you'll need to purchase a $1 coupon toward next year's membership. We're expecting some SWAMP Gas, and there might be food too, depending on what people bring. - Emails! Viruses! Hi! Saw this screensaver and thought of you. Anyone get any nice friendly greetings yesterday? There's a video game called VIRUS.EXE. (Stop the virus before it destroys your hard drive. There are no replays.) - Space pirates role playing murder mystery at Serendipity Saturday night starting at 8. Costs $3 to get in. Flyers are passed around. - There might be a movie night next week, or there might not be. - What's Wylde Nept doing now? (How do you spell it exactly?) - People are still playing with the magnet, the balls, and the hard drive. How many Teslas is the magnet? - How do you get a score of 0 in pinball? It probably takes a lot of talent because you have to make the ball go all the way through without hitting anything. - Playing frisbee with hard drive platters. Could be dangerous, so wear gloves and don't try it at home. You could sharpen them and use them for weapons. Hi-tech throwing stars? If you hold the magnet in your fist, the balls will stick to the outside of your hand. - Computers: antique computers like the TI 99/4A, Tandy, PC Junior, Commodore, TRS 80. 16K of RAM! Some were expandable to a whopping 640K! Don't let your cat sleep on your laser printer. The printer doesn't like hair. It tends to burn and damage things. If you play strip poker against your computer and lose, do you take your clothes off? What does the computer take off if it loses? Is it embarassing to undress in front of your computer? - We have an argument over who's the worst ex-Beatle. - Tokyo Breakfast - both offensive and funny. Uncensored original Dragonball episodes. - Still playing with the magnet and balls. Someone mentions friends in San Francisco and the room suddenly gets really quiet. We come up with some uses for the hard drive (now covered with fingerprints and scratches). Put it on ISCA's desk with a note: "This fell out." or "This could be you next." Who should we say it's from? (Ok, as long as we don't become one of the forums the ISCA considers dropping!) "20 stupid things you can do with a hard drive." - Would a purple leather jacket look good on Marty? Want to pitch in and buy him one? - Who all has student ids here? How old are they? - What can you buy with video arcade tokens? - The presidents leave, looks like the meeting's over, which is good because I'm running out of room on this piece of paper.
