SFLIS Minutes - August 1, 2001 - We start with a couple conversations going on at the same time. KCRG, UPN, Gen Con, Assemble Insert, The Simpsons, and something airing in Canada and being available on the internet the next day. - Now we're all watching The Simpsons. Homer is climbing a mountain. - Our president is on his way to GenCon right now. - The next SWAMP anime show will be in the fall. - And more random stuff. 2 UPN wild feeds - one for the two or three UPN affiliates that actually exist and one for everyone else. The Deep Space 9 repeats on KCRG that were mentioned at the meeting last week didn't show up in the log. - Planet of the Apes was ok. Some people like it, some hate it, but they all agree that the ending sucks. "Insert sequel here." There were 5 Planet of the Apes movies originally, plus a tv series and a cartoon series. An interesting bit of trivia: The Howitzer was the smallest weapon the censors would allow them to use in the cartoon because there was no way a kid could find a loaded howitzer lying around and then copy what they saw on tv. This was known as the Emulation Principle. (Or monkey see, monkey do (haha)). This was before G.I. Joe. - Nobody knows if there's any RPGA stuff going on here this weekend or if too many of the regulars are going to GenCon. - Now some talk about Harlan Ellison, swords, and Shakespeare. In what ways can you update Shapespeare and still have it work. - An e-business posted a profit. Has this ever happened before? Priceline.com. - Sony virtual tv with headphones and goggles, selling for about $400. Will people try to use it while driving? This led to talk about people dying from stupid mistakes on the Oregon Trail, and how difficult it is to control the speed of a covered wagon that's going down a steep hill. - Is anyone interested in having a Black Adder night sometime this fall, maybe at the university when classes start again? - If we did a Dr. Who skit, who in SFLIS would make the best doctor? Would any university professors make a good Doctor? - Now we're watching Drew Carey. - People have been leaving for a half hour now. Does that mean the meeting's over?
