Nov 22, 2000 21:16 from Native Alien SFLIS Minutes - November 22, 2000 . Yes, you read that right - minutes! - Started out with some talk about annoying phone messages and telemarketers. - There was an anime show Sunday, and people were there. Fliers for the December 3 anime show are passed around. They can also double as Christmas cards. A new issue of SWAMP Gas will be coming out soon, should be ready in time for the show. How big will it be? Nobody knows yet. And speaking of gas... - Does anybody know if the price of gas is supposed to go up, down, or whatever? Looks like it's going to permanently stay where it is, at least temporarily. There was also some discussion about the cost of building cars vs the cost of selling them. - Available on video now: X-Men and Gladiator. ........ an interlude where nothing much happens, just some random conversations............ - On PBS tonight, Great Performances, featuring Chuck Jones - Movies: The Grinch was kind of painful to watch, but the Grinch's house was pretty cool. A bunch of people are going to see The 6th Day at Old Capitol Mall tonight at 7. - Does the US have a president-elect yet? Nope! Does SFLIS? Yes. Here's an interesting bit of info: the origin of the word "chad." It seems there was a guy named Chadless who invented the Chadless keypunch machine, which doesn't spit out bits of paper. From this, people got the idea that the bits of paper that it doesn't spit out should be called chads. After this, we discussed some alternate ways of settling the election. And speaking of elections.... - SFLIS had elections for officers last week. We're doing recounts now. For most of the positions, there was a margin of fewer than 10 votes (never mind the fact that there were only about 10 people at the meeting, and most of the candidates were running unopposed). We're looking for some guy named Chad to help us with the results. He may be pregnant or he may be dimpled. A list of the people, creatures, and inanimate objects who were elected should be available at the next meeting. - TV: Buffy had some really bad snake effects last night. Is anyone watching Andromeda, Sheena, Earth: Final Conflict? Stargate looks good, but is kind of hard to find. When is it on now? How about Saturdays at 7 on channel 20 (Iowa City). - This has been mentioned a couple times before, but not at this week's meeting. How about doing something special in appreciation of The Mill for putting up with us for 25 years? - This was also not mentioned at the meeting, but was in an email received today. We're doing giftwrapping at Barnes&Noble from 12-6 (I think) on Dec. 10. - That's it for now.
