- We stole a Riverfest schedule from their desk, since there's never
anybody there.
- Anime: The 4th anniversary show was peachy keen, neato, boffo, cool,
and a bunch of other adjectives. There were more prizes than people.
Attendance was good - around 50.
AnimeIowa has a confirmed Japanese guest of honor - Hiroshi Aro.
His graphic novel contains an amusing section relating his experiences
at OtaCon. (Did I spell that right?)
- No news from Gamicon this week.
- At the Mindbridge meeting Saturday, people drank a lot of Pepsi.
It was tenatively decided that Mindbridge and Gamicon, Inc. not merge,
but remain friendly with each other, at least until after their first
tax year is over.
4 radios with a range of 2 miles, to be used by staff at conventions.
- We'll probably want to go as a group to see Phantom Menace, won't we?
When?
There's a report that theater owners are petitioning Lucasfilm to allow
advance ticket sales so they won't have to put up with people camping
out in front of the theaters for 3, 4, 5, 6 weeks.
Rumor of special showings on May 16 in 6 cities, one of which is
Chicago. Tickets are $500 - $1000, and the money goes to charity.
Anybody want to go?
For our expedition, let's decide on a day, then camp out in front of
the theater for that day. Should be fun. How about a Saturday or
Sunday? And where? Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, or somewhere else?
- How about a summer picnic in June. We'll have it at a park, in a
shelter somewhere, on the 11th or 18th, whichever weekend doesn't
have Gamicon Lite.
- After the meeting: A discussion of the Lost World, by Arthur Conan
Doyle. Barnes&Noble, 7pm.
Next Wednesday is gaming night in River Room 3 of the IMU.
- Last weekend, IPTV showed the wrong Red Dwarf episode - part 2, when
they hadn't shown part 1 yet. They're making up for it this weekend.
Part 1 on Friday, then both parts on Saturday.
- Movies: The Mummy opens May 7. Previews look good.
SciFi Weekly trivia: Matrix, the sequel is going to be a comic book.
Lucy Lawless is pregnant. See Xena in maternity armor next season.
- Movie "the Thirteenth Floor" is similar to Matrix, but based on a story
writtn over 30 years ago.
- DemiCon is April 30 - May 2. You'll like the TICC skit and the
commercials.
- Anime Central is this weekend.
- Meeting going once...twice...thrice....gone.
