Education Update - from New York City
Riverfest is April 24. We'll probably have a table there.
- Next week is Do-it-yourself SFLIS Night, where we decide
who should get the Nebula awards. Also SFLIS Craft Night. Or anything
you want it to be. Bring anything you want.
- Tonight (Wednesday March 24) at 7pm at Barnes&Noble, the fantasy book
group will be discussing "A Song for Arbonne."
Last week, they had a nice intellectual discussion of HG Wells' "First
Men in the Moon."
April's SF book is "The Lost World" by Arthur Conan Doyle. If you like
Sherlock Holmes, you'll like this, even though it's completely different.
You'll like it simply because Doyle was such a good writer.
- Cy-con: Talk to The Powers That Be if you need a ride. Some of those
powers are Steve Crow, Bryon Stump, Catherine Schaff-Stump.
- Anime: There's a show this Sunday after a long 2-week hiatus.
The end of Evangelion (episodes 25 and 26), Ruroni Kenshin, the beginning
of the second El Hazard OAV series, maybe Ranma.
There are plans for a big stash of goodies for the 4th anniversary show
on April 18. There may be visitors from the Twin Cities and Platteville.
- Gamicon requests that SFLIS sponsor the Gamicon Lites so they don't have
to pay for rooms in the IMU. (SFLIS can get rooms for free.) We voted
and it was approved unanimously.
Next Gamicon is Feb. 25-27, 2000. They're trying to get the Armory again.
- Mindbridge meeting on april 17.
- Chaka Con is April 10-11.
Ville Con (or Villi Con?) is April 23-25 in Maryville, Missouri. It's
a Ravensbluff RPGA convention. This is not a "comfort" con - no air
conditioning, and it can get pretty hot, even in April.
Anime Central is at the Ramada near O'Hare. Don't tell anyone, but there's
an Econo Lodge nearby which costs a lot less.
Demicon is April 30 - May 2. Preregister for $30 until April 1.
- Movies, etc: Matrix opens March 31.
New Red Dwarf episodes on IPTV. Last Friday, the Des Moines station
apparently showed 3 episodes, while the rest of the state only got to
see 2.
- SFLIS movie night 2 weeks from now, with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- Meeting going...once...twice...sold.
