SFLIS MINUTES - MARCH 10, 1999

- Mail:  Earn a masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the
  University of Iowa.
- Should we start the meeting now?  No, we still have 3 minutes.
- Before we begin, a couple questions:  What's your favorite ice cream?
  What's the weirdest ice cream you've ever eaten?  How about squid?
  Or zucchini, with little chunks of zucchini in it?
- We can start now.
- Please fill out the SFLIS personal profile forms.
- Last week's student activities fair went well.  We had toys, videos, and
  Robbie the Robot at our table.  Got names of some people who are interested,
  gave out lots of bookmarks.  Pretty good overall.
- What's going on?
  Buckaroo Banzai tonight after the meeting - 6:30 in the IMU.  Originally
  in River Room 3, but ended up being moved to a conference room.  Pretty
  nice room, too.  Maybe they'll let us have it again sometime.
  During and after the movie, many comments were made concerning the
  quality of the script, the acting, and the music.
  Next month's movie will be Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- Friday March 12, SFLIS goes to Iowa Public Television.  Call in and pledge.
  Watch them swat Mike Frisby.  If you want to go, meet at the Westfield Inn
  in Coralville at 7:30.
- Saturday March 13, fellowship gaming at Legends 11am - 9pm.  Two RPGA
  modules.  D&D and Living City.  Only $1 per game.  Come and try them out.
  There's a pizza place next door.
- Sunday March 14, we're going to Cedar Rapids to see the dinosaurs.  If
  you need a ride, meet at the cookie place at Old Capitol Mall, 11-ish.
  Talk to Catherine if you need a ride.  Admission is $6.50, but there's a
  possibility of a discount if we get enough people.
- Next Wednesday there will be a discussion of "First Man in the Moon" by
  H.G. Wells.
- We got a postcard from Yosemite from Susan West.
- Gamicon is becoming more and more of a success all the time.  This year
  they gave away the last of the Genellan Planetfall books.  At Cy-Con,
  they'll work on Shadis and Webs Games.
- Anime:  There was a show Sunday, and 5 or 6 people stayed to spoof the
  bad dub of "Fist of the North Star."  Next show is March 28.
  Then April 11, and the big 4th anniversary show on April 18.

- What to do on the 31st?  SFLIS craft night!
  Or a discussion or book reading.  Or a little bit of everything.
  Bring whatever you want, and we'll have a do-it-yourself night.  We have
  a room reserved, so you can do it yourself together with everone else.
- TV/Movies:  New X-Files.  "Strange World," from the producers of the
  X-Files is on tv, for a limited time at least.
  Movie "Wing Commander" starts Friday.  Should we organize an expedition?
  John and Jeremy are going Monday Night.  Talk to them if you want to
  go with them.
  There's another Star Wars trailer, and it didn't come out on the
  Internet this week.
- If a baby is born during DemiCon, should there be a panel for it?
  Guess the weight?  In metric - kilograms instead of pounds because
  it's the mass that counts, not the weight.  Or something like that.
