SFLIS MINUTES - MAY 5, 1999 - There were lawyers in our room today, so we had to go somewhere else. - Mail: UISG is asking for info. about student organizations to give to new students at orientation this summer. We need a one-page summary telling how wonderful our group is, and a signup sheet. Anybody want to write one? They need to be left at the UISG office (48 IMU) by Friday May 21. We got a receipt saying that our use of equipment for movie nights in March and April is paid for. - New SFLIS bookmarks with May/June schedule are available. - Those of you who were not at the meeting missed a wonderful belly dance done by....... - Or maybe not. - There wasn't much flesh at DemiCon this year. One guy got arrested after drinking too much and becoming violent. At ICON's room party, they sold room party survivor badges and gave out lots of prizes that they found when they cleaned out our storage unit. Lots of registrations for ICON. Alcohol was consumed, including the "will you drink a fish" drink, which became stronger and stronger as the weekend progressed. - Marty brought his penguin to the meeting. - Lynda and Mick are moving on the 31st. Free food for all who help them. - Gamicon Lite is June 26, 3rd floor of the IMU, 10am-10pm. - Fellowship gaming at Legends this Saturday, 11am-8pm. - Iguana's has moved to a new, huge location - 123 E. Washington. - GenCon is coming up. - Anime: Sunday the 2nd was the last show of the semester. The key to the room has been turned in. SWAMP is hoping to have 5 shows this summer. Location to be announced. Should have a room request in by next week. Theme for the next show will probably be "pick our next continuing series." Anyone interested in checking out AnimeIowa's hotel this Saturday, meet at the hotel at 11:30am. RSVP to Marty if you're going. They'll be doing things like counting electrical outlets, seeing how the function space can be divided up, and asking questions like, "Do you mind having half-naked cat girls running around?" They're hoping to get a jukebox to stuff with anime CDs. - Star Wars info. from the Daily Iowan: First showing of Phantom Menace in Iowa City will be at 12:01am May 19, at the Coral Ridge and Englert theaters. Tickets go on sale at 11pm May 18, with a limit of 6 per person. - Movies: Trailer for Disney's Tarzan is on the Web. The Mummy opens this Friday. Really good effects. And the story? Well...... - Does anybody know when Phantom Menace opens in Japan? And will it be subtitled or dubbed? - We ended the meeting by talking about various subjects, including nuclear power plants and Deep Space 9.
