SFLIS MINUTES - APRIL 28, 1999 - Mail: 'Weeks of Welcome' for people new to the university. Do we want our events included in their schedule? Yes. A survey - Somebody wants our opinion on the quality of service the OSL is providing. So we'll give it to them. - Mail Boxes, Etc. is changing their address policy. If you have a box with them, you might want to ask about it. - Last call for reserving rooms in the IMU. We're submitting our request as soon as they'll let us. (You can reserve rooms on your own later than that if you want to, but if you wait too long, you might not get what you ask for.) - There's an anime show this weekend. Sunday 1-8pm, C125 PBAB. Marty might not be there, so if your only reason for going to the shows is to see him, then you should go to...... - DemiCon! It's this weekend at the Inn at University in Des Moines. SWAMP will be showing anime there. Judging from the programming list, this year's DemiCon should be one of the best. - The SFLIS May/June calendar comes out soon. - Tonight after the meeting, there's gaming. There's also a discussion of A. Conan Doyle's 'The Lost World' at Barnes&Noble. (It was postponed due to a power failure last Wednesday.) - Riverfest was very sunny and very loud. People stopped by our table to see Operation and the motion detecting robot. - Gamicon Lite is June 26. 3 RPGA events, including Sojourn and Sojourn 2. Contact Mick if you want to GM. - We need someone to contact publishers and distributers to see about getting free stuff for ICON. Books, toys, posters, etc. As much as we can get. - Anime Central was not too bad. Interesting programming. Expensive hotel, but good function space. During the fire alarm at 2:30 Sunday, they herded everybody into the center courtyard. A full report is at www.animeshrine.com - They've discovered a multi-planet solar system 44 light years away, and they're wondering if there are any planets in the 'goldilocks zone.' - Somebody has officially announced that they will clone a human next year in South Korea or Japan. - TV/Movies: The Mummy opens May 7. Phantom Menace May 19. For Phantom Menace, let's advertise the fact that we're making a spectacle of ourselves, camping out in front of the theater for the day. Everybody bring your Star Wars t-shirts, toys, etc. Last night was supposed to be a new Buffy, but it got pushed back because it was too much like that incident in Colorado last week. - Books: Harry Turtledove has a new alternate history. Sequel to Dragonsbane. RA Salvatore's 3rd book in the Demon series. Visit Barnes&Noble. - What should we show for movie night next month? - That's it for this meeting.
