SFLIS Minutes

SFLIS MINUTES - DECEMBER 2, 1998

Our usual room was taken, so we met in a different room this time.
- Mail: Vanguard Jazz Collective at the Wheelroom Dec. 3, 8pm.
Movie L.A. Confidential at the Wheelroom Dec. 4, 8pm.
Sunday night pasta at the Union Station, late night studying in the
Wheelroom, Union Market open until 2am.
  Yesterday was World AIDS Day.
A letter addressed to Henry, which we are saving for next week.
- There's an anime show this Sunday Dec. 6, 1am until whenever people
feel like ending it. Come any time you want, but there's no guarantee
that anyone will be there before 1pm. This is the spoof/Christmas/end
  of Nadesico show. C125 PBAB.
The TBA Christmas special has not been decided yet.
There will be an anime show at Marty's on Dec. 27, unless it's Jan. 3.
- Peter Beagle will be a guest at ICON. He wrote The Last Unicorn, A
Fine and Private Place, In the Presence of Elephants, and others.
- Gamicon: Voting on whether Gamicon, Inc. should be allowed to run
  Gamicon.
There were no votes left at the desk in the SAC.
Since there were no objections, we decided not to go to the trouble
of tearing up pieces of paper for ballots and to just vote by a show
of hands. Motion passed, with no votes against it. There were one or
two people who either abstained or weren't paying attention.
- Gamicon is still searching for a guest. Anyone have any ideas?
There's a meeting at noon on Saturday Dec. 6, at Legends, open to
  the public.
There's also a game day at 2pm on the same day at the same place.
Gamicon is wrapping at Barnes & Noble from 6-9pm on Dec. 15.
Gamicon will be held on the weekend of Feb. 26-28.
The Heartland Inn has a special room rate of $45/night for that
weekend. Make sure you say you're with Gamicon when you make your
  reservation.
- SFLIS Con: Still taking ideas for panels and stuff. Panels can be
  about anything.
Is there anyone who can lead a discussion of the new Star Wars movie?
We need addresses of people and clubs to invite. We'll invite anyone
  you think might be iterested.
- Movies & stuff: Bug's Life - better than Antz.
Prince of Egypt opens Dec. 18. Rumor has it that they're editing out
the distasteful parts of the story. Also, even though it's an animated
movie, there probably won't be any singing gargoyles, or even any
singing burning bushes, or anything like that.
It's rumored to be the most expensive animated movie ever made, but the
  studio says otherwise.
Star Trek: Insurrection opens Dec. 11. It's #9, an odd number, for
  those who are keeping track.
- Discussion of the XFiles movie vs the tv series.
- Meeting's over.
