SFLIS Minutes
SFLIS MINUTES - NOVEMBER 11, 1998
Only 5 people here. We start the meeting anyway.
- Mail: A catalog from Swank Motion Pictures - "The Black Experience
on Film"
- We're wrapping stuff at Barnes&Noble sometime in December.
- Gamicon: Doing fine. There's a meeting at Nigel's house on Sunday.
(Looks like I forgot to write down the time.) 1803 Lakeside.
- Nobody here for AnimeIowa or ICON.
- SIFCon, or whatever we end up calling it, will be Feb. 6. We have the
Ohio State, Northwestern, and Illinois rooms reserved in the IMU.
It looks like we're going to spend the $80 to rent video equipment
for the Illinois room.
We will have one room for general hanging out, one room for programming,
and one room for videos.
We need programming. Any kind of programming. But it should probably
be related to SF in some way. What videos should we show?
We'll be inviting other groups, too. Like DMSFS, DAGOBAH, the one in
Cedar Rapids whos name nobody could think of at the moment. And from
the Twin Cities. Maybe others. Any gaming, book reading, other groups
you know of that might be interested, give their names and addresses
to Catherine.
Oh yeah, the time. Probably from 10am - 6pm.
It's on the same weekend as the Dance Marathon.
- A bunch of people just showed up. Now we can have more reports.
Like from....
- Anime: There was a show sunday, good turnout. Everyone loved
Saber Marionette J.
Next show is Nov. 22 - anime with bad continuity.
Dec. 6 - spoof/end of Nadesico/Christmas show.
The AnimeIowa website has been updated. Look at it. You can get to
it from www.sflis.org or http://omocha.shc.uiowa.edu or from a bunch
of other places.
AnimeIowa has 100 rooms blocked off at the Collins Plaza hotel. Hotel
has over twice the function space of the Radisson.
There may be AnimeIowa '98 pictures on the website, once the film
gets developed.
There will probably be a Christmas or New Years anime show at Marty's.
- How much money do we have? The treasurer will find out.
- Movies, TV, etc.: "Enemy of the State" opens this weekend.
New Babylon 5 and XFiles this week.
Bab5:River of Souls is on sometime around now.
"The Prisoner" is being repressed on LD.
Rhino Home Entertainment has released 8 more episodes of South Park
on DVD.
- There's a SF book discussion at Barnes&Noble tonight (Wednesday).
- "The Perfect Host" - book 5 of the collected stories of Theodore
Sturgeon is out.
- Star Wars Trivial Pursuit game is out, with 10 cards on the new movie.
