SFLIS MINUTES - OCTOBER 28, 1998

We start with........
- Introductions: What are you having for dinner tonight?
  About now, the waitress comes in and asks if we're ready to order.
  People introduce themselves as they're ordering.
- Mail:  Newsletter for recognized student organizations.
  "Celebrating Cultural Diversity"  to be held Feb. 28.  They sent us
  forms and stuff to turn in if we want to participate.  A couple
  suggestions for SFLIS:
             * A celebration of Klingon culture
             * It's the same weekend as Gamicon, so why not send over
               a few people from the vampire LARP?
             * There's a fashion show, too.  Hmmm........
             Just how diverse do they want to be?

  more mail:  schedule of events at the Wheelroom.
  Shakti in concert 9pm Oct. 29, at the Wheelroom.
  A fundraising brochure with no details, just a phone number.
- Gamicon:  Large organizational meeting at Maakestad's Sunday Nov. 1,
  3:30 pm.  They will be nailing people down to jobs, maybe make a
  guest of honor announcement.  There will be food and stuff.
- Game day at Legends, Nov. 7  at the new location - 1/2 block from their
  old location.
- Fields of honor was in Des Moines.  150-200 people attended, had a good
  time.  Some really huge games, like Aztec, which took up 6 tables.
  Lots of stuff was given away.
- ICON:  ICON 23 is suffering from "concom person on business trip"
  syndrome, so no official details about attendance, finances yet.
- The next Mindbridge meeting is....sometime.  In November.
  Mindbridge is also suffering from "person on business trip" syndrome.
  There will be advance notice, and the time and date will be put on the
  web page.
- Anime:  There was a show last Sunday.  Good attendance.  Next one is
  Nov. 8, with female robots.
- SifCon.  Like we did in April '97.
  Let's do another one.  Maybe 2 weeks after the next semester starts.
  Maybe Feb. 5-7 or Feb. 12-14.  But just for one day.  Saturday would
  be best because the busses would be running then.  So, Feb. 6 or 13?
  People like the number 13, so we choose the 13th.
  Should we send invitations to other fan groups, like in Cedar Rapids or
  Des Moines?  Sure.  It'll be fun.
  So, in the next month or so, we'll try to reserve some rooms and get
  things moving.
- TV and movies:  New Babylon5 this week.  Bab5 movie "River of Souls"
  will be Nov. 8.
  The Lost World, with previously unseen footage is on FOX Sunday night.
  Everything in Babylon 5 was filmed in widescreen format, with the
  expectation that it would one day be shown on a real wide screen.
  XFiles season premier is Nov. 8.  Same night as River of Souls.
