SFLIS Minutes

SFLIS MINUTES - OCTOBER 21, 1998

We decided to do the meeting without a leader today.
First we moved to adjourn.
Then we looked at the mail.
- Mail: info. about the dance marathon
A memo about the reallocation of phones in the Student Activities Center.
- ICON happened over the weekend. No official final body count yet, but
there were at least 510 people there.
The record is 603 people, at the Beauty and the Beast ICON.
About 45 characters participated in the LARP. Strange group - they
actually got up early on Sat. and Sun. A couple people who use to
run the LARP at GenCon said that they were impressed by the way this
  one was run.
  The art show did well.
Email from Mary Ann DeLint, saying that they had a good time.
Forrest Ackerman enjoyed the con, too - felt he was treated very well.
Barnes & Noble loves us. Forrest Ackerman's signing was their biggest
event ever. (Of course, they've only been open a few months.)
ICON will probably be at the same place again next year. Not absolutely
  certain yet, but probably.
The hotel staff and security guards seemed to like us, and some of them
  even dressed for the occasion.
- For those who want to see him again, Forrest Ackerman will be at
  Convergence in July 1999.
- If you have any comments, suggestions, feedback on volunteer stuff,
  talk to Lynda.
If you have any comments at all about ICON, talk to the concom.
- Halloween party at Maakestad's on Friday Oct. 30, starting around
6:30 or 7pm. If you want, you can bring food and a costume.
- Dracula is coming to Hancher.
- There's a big Gamicon meeting sunday Nov. 1. 1:30pm at Maakestad's.
If you're interested in being involved, helping out, running something,
etc, come to the meeting if you can.
- The following question was referred to the treasurer, who referred it
  to the president.
  So, how's anime?
Anime: flyers (in color) were passed around. There's a show this Sunday,
  1-8pm, C125 PBAB.
AnimeIowa next year will be opposite a big con - World Con, in Australia.
- There's a pinball expo. this weekend (Thurs. - Sun.) If you want anything
  from there, talk to Marty.
- If you have any props or costumes of any kind that you're not using,
  consider donating them to TICC.
- Gregg Parmentier is moving Halloween. He's moving it to Christmas, or
so we've been told. Come to his house in Iowa City at 10am on Oct. 31
  to help out.
- Voyager is on this Saturday at 9 pm, in spite of what TV Guide says.
- People are starting to leave, so the meeting must be over.
