SFLIS Minutes
SFLIS MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 2, 1998
- Mail: A bill for $0.00 from the Press Citizen. Payment is due on the
24th.
Assorted information about the university.
A schedule from the ice arena at Coral Ridge Mall.
- There is a student activities fair on the afternoon of Wednesday the 9th
in the IMU. Gamicon has offered to pay up to $100 for a pizza party to
attract new members. Nobody had any objections, so it looks like we're
going to do it. We're planning to have it at the Mill after the
activities fair, probably around 5 or 6. Exact details to be worked
out between now and the 9th.
We're also planning to have a table at the fair, so if anyone is free
that afternoon and wants to volunteer...
- If your organization wants to get money from the university, you should
ALWAYS save ALL of your receipts.
- ICON: ICON needs someone to be in charge of child care. It's
important. It's fun. Tell everyone. Talk to Lynda if you're
interested.
ICON needs a judge for a classic RPGA tournament. If you can do it,
they'd like to hear from you.
Labor Day is the last day to preregister cheap.
The hotel seems to be a little slow about sending out room
confirmations.
- Barnes and Noble is starting a SF reading program, thanks to our
representative who works there. The first book is Snow Crash, by
Neil Stevenson. You can buy it for 30% off if you say it's for the
program. The first meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept 22.
- Attendance at Sunday's anime show was pretty good, considering the
lack of publicity. Next show will be Sept. 13, featuring silly anime.
- AnimeIowa: Two new guests of honor - Amanda Winn-Lee and Jason Lee.
They've done some work as voice actors for AD Vision.
The premier of "Hurricane Polymorph" will be shown here, probably
Friday night.
Due to the hotel's remodeling, there may be one fewer video room than
expected.
There will be a fanfic panel, with 5 or 6 well-known fanfic writers.
- TV: Lots of changes to TNT's schedule. Babylon5 will be on at 5 now.
Stargate SGI, which has been on Showtime for a while, will be shown
on KCRG Saturdays at 6 p.m. When it's not preempted by football.
- Blade: Nobody at the meeting had seen it yet. There have been mixed
reviews and it's supposed to be nothing like the comic.
- There was a TICC skit rehearsal after the meeting. 7 p.m. in the
EPB.
- A couple people tried to move to adjourn, but didn't get it right.
We then had a discussion on how to properly end a meeting.
After that, things slowly dissolved into chaos as people started to
leave.
