SFLIS MINUTES - JULY 22, 1998
- ICON flyers are here! They were passed around. They will be mailed soon,
once the address labels are on them.
- The SFLIS address list was passed around to be corrected and updated.
Many many corrections were made.
- Our president tries to start the meeting. Nothing happens.
He tries again. This time it works.
- The amazon.com thing is almost decided, but still under discussion. It
looks like would be better to have it on the Mindbridge website than on
the SFLIS one.
Before doing it, we still need to talk to a few people, like whoever ends
up hosting the Mindbridge site. Speaking of which...
- Somebody has volunteered to host the Mindbridge website for free.
They are not at liberty to reveal the person's name at this time; that
information is classified.
- Anime: no big news. There's a show this weekend, historical anime.
At the usual time and place, Sunday 1-8, C107 PBAB.
Anime Iowa has gotten a couple more prereges. There will probably be a
fan fiction panel there, with a couple of the more popular fanfic authors.
You can preregister for $25 until July 31. Then the price goes up to $35.
Go to Legends and give Noel money.
- Gamicon Lite was last weekend. There was some attendance. Many cows were
killed. Sheep were in danger.
You only have several more months to preregister for Gamicon. Now would
be as good a time as any.
They are starting to collect events for the real convention in February.
If you want to advertise in their newsletters, program book, etc., talk
to Becky Benhart.
- The ICON mailing will go out soon.
Registrations are looking good. They're starting to run out of hotel rooms.
No need to worry yet, but you should get your request in soon if you can.
There will be 2 lacrosse teams in the hotel at the same time as ICON.
They're still looking for people interested in running panels, events,
especially ones that are intimate and focused, maybe with 20 or fewer
people. Hard-science discussions, fingerpainting, "It came from the back
of my refrigerator - what is it?"
Registration prices go up after labor day.
Is anyone interested in being on the ICON 24 concom? Talk to Mindbridge.
- Snowcon: camping in the winter (well, almost winter). November 6-7
at Red Oak Lodge, Matsell Bridge Recreation Area in Linn County. (I'm
pretty sure the spelling is wrong. I don't have a map with me to look at.)
The facilities are very rustic, and no electronic devices are allowed.
Cost will be maybe $10 per person. If interested, call Nigel Ray. Or
email leptopus@avalon.net
- Tadao says "Hi" from California. He misses us.
- TV is all repeats this week.
- Movies: Zorro is not a SF film, but "they can buckle some swash," so
it's worth seeing.
- TCI vs. McLeod: If you want McLeod to be able to offer cable service in
Iowa City/Coralville, vote for it if and when it comes up for a vote.
- We're done.
