SFLIS MINUTES - JUNE 17, 1998

Some pre-meeting discussion: the differences between the Muppets now and the
Muppets before Jim Henson died, and whether they'd be better off if they
   got away from Disney.
General talk about Disney World and what Ellen's doing now that her show's
been cancelled. And other stuff like the rides at Disney World. There
seem to be a lot of people who have been there.
Famous lesbians who are women. Uh, no...famous female lesbians.
NO, that's not it either. Anyway......from there, the conversation
moved on to amusement park rides in general.
And somehow these topics all ended up being related to each other.

- We start the meeting.
- There is a letter for Noel Burns.
- Gino has designed a newspaper ad for us, to be published in the Key later
this summer. The design and wording were examined and declared to be
  "spiff."
- A bunch of gaming magazines, roleplaying adventures, and stuff were
donated to us. We decided to give them to Gamicon Lite, with one person
  making the required token objection.
- We voted on the Mindbridge bylaws and whether to let them run ICON. The
  results are as follows:

  10 yes
   1 yay
   1 yea
   1 yeah
   1 okie-dokie

  The motion passed.
- ICON: Now under new management (or the same management with a new
  name. or something like that.).
July 1 (approximately) is the deadline for LARP submissions. They have
at least 2 so far. An announcement will be made on July 7 or 8.
They are also accepting TICC scripts.
We need an ICON 24 concom. If you're interested in being on it, talk to
  Mindbridge.
- Gamicon Lite is July 18, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. in the IMU. On that same day,
there will also be a LARP in downtown Iowa City, on the Ped Mall.
Games at Gamicon Lite will include a Babylon 5 tournament, a Deadlands
  demo, and lots of others.
- There will be a game day in Cedar Rapids at the Ramada on July 11, for
about 12 hours. Games will include Octagon, Twilight Avenger 2, and
  Legends. Cost is $8-$10.
- The anime show Sunday was good and well attended. Next show is June 28,
  featuring cute cops.
- The XFiles movie is in lots of magazines. You can get a free ticket if
you are over 25, test drive an Oldsmobile, and have a car of your own
  that you can trade in.
  Movie is at the Coral 4 theaters 1:15, 3:20, 7:15, 9:20.
Tickets go on sale 1 1/2 hours before the shows.
At the end of the soundtrack CD, there is a secret giveaway of the plot.
- Mulan opens soon (but I didn't write down the date. This weekend?)
- In the Add Sheet: The new 10 screen theater in the Coral Ridge Mall is
hiring. There is also an ad for $5 off for body piercing.
- The American Film Institute has come up with a list of the 100 best movies
of the 20th century. There are 3 science fiction movies on it, all in the
top 25 - Star Wars, 2001, and Clockwork Orange. Citizen Kane was in first
place. The Wizard of Oz was also listed.
- TV: Sailor Moon is now on the Cartoon Network.
  New Babylon 5 this week.
IPTV will be starting Blakes 7 over again in a few weeks, and they promise
to show all 52 episodes in order. (they skipped a few the first time
  around.)
- We're done.
