SFLIS MINUTES - JUNE 10, 1998

Some premeeting stuff:
  Galen walked in and was told that he was dead.
  Some interesting talk about ISCA, also some advice on connecting to the bbs.

- The meeting was called to disorder with vice president Jon Maakestad
  presiding.
- Motion was made to adjourn, and was seconded.  Motion was ignored by the
  vice president and the meeting continued.
- We have a letter from the Press Citizen offering us a chance to advertise
  in the "Key," the big supplement that they publish every summer.  Deadline
  for submissions is June 17.  The letter was passed around, and we kind of
  decided to do it.  We'll do it if we have an ad ready in time.
- TV:  "Invasion America" is on WGN Tuesdays at 8.
  The new season of "Sliders" has started, and it's sliding straight into
  the toilet.
- Voting on Mindbridge has been extended until Wednesday the 17th because
  nobody has brought the voting box to the IMU yet.  (It's kind of hard for
  some people to get there right now because it's only open 9-5 Monday-Friday.)
  Anyway, if you haven't yet, you should take a look at the proposed bylaws.

- ICON:  Nothing to report.
- Gamicon needs to talk to ICON.  So they probably will sometime.
- Gamicon Lite is July 18 in the IMU.  They have 3 rooms reserved.
  There is also a LARP in downtown Iowa City on the same day.
- Lynda has the big popcorn machine that was used in the ICON consuite, and a
  couple 50 lb. bags of popcorn.  If anyone wants to use it, talk to her.
- Furry anime will be shown this Sunday from 1-8 in C107 Poppajohn Business
  Administration Building.  It will include "Kenji's Spring," which is said
  to be "a nice piece of furry existentialism."
- The Xfiles movie is on lots of magazine covers.  There is evidently a car
  dealership that is giving out free tickets to people who test drive an
  Oldamobile.  Anyone know which one?
  The movie opens on the 19th, not sure what time.
  The movie will have a trailer for the new Star Wars movie.
  Rumor has it that the photography for this Star Wars movie had to be
  reshot.
- Gen Con books are out so people can start signing up for stuff.  There are no
  maps in the book, so you'll have to wait until you get there to find out
  where everything is, or even how many dealers, etc. they have.
- There's a new Highlander expansion set called "The Gathering" with some
  nice cards.
- Today was Catherine's birthday.  She received a present and our wonderful
  rendition of "Happy Birthday."(the standard version)
- Meeting is adjourned.
