SFLIS MINUTES - MAY 6, 1998

Those of us who got here early decided to hold the meeting right away so
we could be done by 5:30.  But then we changed our minds.
There was some discussion, however.
- Demicon:  The hotel was still under construction.  There was a big noise
  from outside every half hour.
  An explosive device went off in a dumpster outside the hotel.
  There was a wedding party at the hotel at the same time as the con.
  The bride had her picture taken with Boba Fett. (did I spell that correctly?)
  It was worth going to the con just to see Boba Fett.
- SFLIS is in a different room this week.  We're sitting here, waiting for
  5:30 to arrive, listening to big band music coming from the speaker in the
  corner of the room.  Some people are reading the stuff that they bought at
  Daydreams this afternoon.  Outside, the weather is cool and cloudy with
  occasional light rain and drizzle.
- From our one piece of campus mail this week:  UISG is looking for people
  to become event directors.
- It's 5:30.  We start the meeting.
- Demicon:  Two elevators at the hotel were functional, but only one could be
  used.  The state hadn't inspected the other one yet.
  The hotel screwed up the dealers space.
  Bennigan's was done.
  The LARP was good.
  The anime was very well-done.  The only complaint was that Escaflowne was
  shown at a slightly inconvenient time - 3 a.m.
  A video of the TICC skit was shown in the anime room, just what they needed
  to fill a hole in the schedule.
  The TICC skit was good, as usual.
- There's a Mother's Day anime show this Sunday (the 10th).  1 - 8 p.m.,
  C107 PBAB.  Most of the videos shown will have something to do with
  mothers.  There may be a schedule change - an episode of Hime Chan's
  Ribbon instead of whatever is scheduled at the time it's going to be
  shown.  Or something like that.  You'll have to go to the show to find
  out, won't you.
- ICON's party at Demicon went really well.  People liked the cups.
  The ICON dealers room is almost full.
- Anime Iowa:  There's some news, but it's too early to tell anyone.  So
  nobody is being told yet.  It may change.
  There may be a full-color t-shirt this year, but that's not
  certain yet.
- TV:  Xfiles will be new for the next few weeks.
  Deep Space 9 is new.  Deep Space 9 is good compared to Voyager.
- Movies:  Godzilla, Armageddon, Deep Impact, all coming soon.
  There's a very brief view of Godzilla in the commercials for the movie.
- People come in wearing Animaniacs headgear.
- We have a discussion of the significance of the diamond necklace in Titanic.
- Meeting's over.
