SFLIS MINUTES - APRIL 1, 1998
- We decide to eat here. We get some menus.
- Campus mail was read and passed around.
- There's a job fair Saturday at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
- The former president of Poland is speaking tonight (4/1).
Nobody was sure how to pronounce his name.
- Gamicon had a budget meeting. They had a slight profit this year.
They're still waiting for money from the university.
- ICON: They're putting out flyers all over the place, from Ohio to Colorado,
MInnesota to Arkansas.
They will probably have a room party at Minicon.
- Copy Works on the Coralville strip just opened. With purchase, they have
been giving out coupons. If you need to have a lot of flyers printed,
you may want to check this out. It could save you some money.
- Anime: Anime Central is this weekend, in Chicago. There are a few people
from here going to it.
SWAMP will be running an anime cabana at Minicon April 10 - 12.
On April 12, there will be an anime show here, featuring Lupin.
Brian will be running the show, since Marty will be at Minicon.
SWAMP's 3rd anniversary show is April 26. Extended hours - until 10 p.m.
and they will be giving away stuff.
- Noel and Laura are the new owners of Legends as of 7 p.m. March 31.
Everybody should go there and buy lots of stuff. They're open until
9:00 weeknights.
Legends is at 2054 8th St., Coralville, in Lantern Park Plaza, where
Target and Hy Vee are. Unless they've moved since the last time I was
there.
- Riverfest: We have two tables reserved - one for Gamicon and one for SFLIS.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 25. There's a good chance that we will
be outside if the weather's nice. If you want electricity you'll
probably have to bring your own generator, preferably matter/antimatter
or nuclear fusion.
Were are accepting volunteers to staff the tables. There will be sign
up sheets at the next couple meetings. Even if you can't come to the
meetings, you can still come and sit at the tables.
- We take a break while we order the food.
While we're ordering, people practice the Vulcan hand sign, whatever it's
called. (Does it have a name?)
- TV: New Southpark this week. New Babylon 5 - War Without End, part 2.
We spent some time talking about Babylon 5.
Old episodes of XFiles and Voyager. New Deep Space 9.
- Movies: A script for a Predator/Alien movie has been written, but it's
not known if the movie will ever be made.
- Now we talk for a while about X-Files.
- Lost in Space opens this weekend.
Now we have a discussion about Lost in Space.
- April 1 is the deadline for pregistering for Demicon.
Demicon confirmations were sent out a couple weeks ago. If you've registered
and haven't received one yet, you may want to ask them about it.
(Of course, if you just registered yesterday, it might be a good idea
to wait a bit.)
- Minicon confirmation cards are arriving. It is hoped that everyone will
have theirs before the con.
- SFLIS had an ad in the Press Citizen's Clubs/Organizations section.
Gamicon paid for it.
- April 1 is Ann McCaffrey's birthday.
