SFLIS MINUTES - JANUARY 21, 1998

- Order form for Girl Scout cookies was passed around. And of course, the
question was asked, "But are they made with real girl scouts?"
- Lots of Gamicon stuff:
  * Does SFLIS want a table at Gamicon? Dealer's room is likely to be full.
    We need to decide soon.
  * Convention survival packs are going fast. Sign up soon. Sign up often.
  * Falbo's will be there selling pizza by the slice for the entire weekend.
  * There may be as many as 300 items for sale at the auction. If you have
something that you don't need any more, bring it so they can sell it.
  * Activities will probably include a Magic tournament, Fuzzy Heros vs.
Beanie Babies, and a Babylon 5 collectable card game demo.
  * No experience required! They'll be happy to teach you how to play.
  * ICON, AnimeIowa, etc. can have free publicity in the Gamicon survival
packs. Get your flyers/leaflets to them in the next couple weeks.
  * Gamicon Iota organizational meeting Saturday Jan. 24 at 3:30 at the
    IMU, Ohio State Room.
  * Gamicon GM party also in the Ohio State Room at 3:30 on Feb. 7.
- Look at the SFLIS web page (www.sflis.org) to find out more about Gamicon
  and other activies such as....
- ICON - run by many of the same people as Gamicon. Confirmed guests include
Charles DeLint, Forrest Ackerman, and featured artist Ed Hyle
- Anime show this weekend, 1 - 8 p.m. in C107, Pappajohn Business Adm. Bldg.
Sunday Jan. 25. Featuring "fighting females" (describes about half of the
  anime that's ever been made, doesn't it? :) )
If you have any ideas for future shows, see Marty.
- If you're interested in going to Anime Central in Chicago, April 3 - 5,
talk to Marty. That's the weekend before Minnicon,by the way.
  Speaking of which.....
- If you don't register for Minnicon by the end of February, the price goes
  up to $70.
- SuperCon is this weekend, at the Comfort Inn in Rochester, MN. The weather
looks good for traveling. But will it stay that way?
- We will soon be asking for volunteers to help with IPTV's fundraising
  March 13.
- New episode of South Park in a couple of weeks, for those who are fortunate
enough to get Comedy Central. Sick, twisted, funny, every episode has a
  moral.
- Season premier of Babylon 5 tonight on TNT. (by the time I post this it
  will be last night.)
- X-Files will have a 6th and 7th season.
- Movies: "Zorro" in June, "Man in the Iron Mask" in July, "X-Files"
  sometime this summer.
- "Armageddon" - display at the mall theater has a clock counting down the
time until opening day, in hundredths of seconds. Suggestions were made
for verifying the accuracy of it, including having one person inside the
theater and one outside using walkie-talkies, bringing the clock into
  the theater, and telepathy.
- For those who appreciate good music, Golden Throats 1 and 2 are at the
  CD Exchange in C.R.
- Ordinary People is at the Iowa City Community Theater, at the fairgrounds,
  this weekend and next.
- Introductions: What is your favorite bumper sticker?
- Lynda reads a story. (I didn't catch the title. Anyone remember?)
- And we're done.
