SFLIS MINUTES - JANUARY 14, 1998
- We sit around talking about everything and nothing as people slowly trickle
in.
- It gradually occurs to us that maybe we should start the meeting.
- "University budget sucks rocks." - They keep misplacing Gamicon's info.
- Speaking of Gamicon... There will be a Gamicon meeting Saturday Jan. 25 in
the IMU at 3:30 p.m. Probably in the Ohio State room, but that could
change.
- And of course, don't forget that Gamicon is Feb. 20 - 22.
- Supercon is the weekend of Jan. 24 - 25 in Rochester, MN, at the Sheriton.
- $25 at the door. They expect about 100 people. Be warned - they do
on-the-spot recruiting for panelists.
Home brewed beer and maybe, just maybe, champagne and caviar in the con suite
Memories of Supercons past:
A few years ago it was in Duluth and people could sit in hot tubs in the
con suite and watch a thundersnowstorm on Lake Superior. Cool! (Wish I
could have been there.)
- It's time for introductions. What is your favorite jellybean?
- ICON 23 will not have an "official" artist GOH. Instead there will be a
"featured artist", Ed Hyle (sorry if this is spelled wrong). Anyway, he did
the artwork for the ICON 21 program book.
One of the other GOH's is reported to be really looking forward to ICON and
is eager to experience a "literary" convention.
- Anime. We have a room reserved for the whole semester. The next show is
Jan. 25, c107 PBAB, featuring "fighting females." It was mentioned that this
is at the same time as some kind of football thing. Now what was it called
again?..... :)
- We had a quick discussion on the meaning of life. After settling the matter,
we moved on.
- The short story "Sign at the End of the Universe" was read by Lynda.
I won't go to the trouble of reprinting the entire thing here.
- Iowa Public Television has 5 Dr. who specials that they can air during
festival. "Directors cuts", redone with new footage and improved sound -
5 Doctors, Curse of Fenric, War Machine, Terror of the Autons, and the
Silurians. They want to know which two of these five people would most like
to see.
SFLIS will be going to Des Moines to help out with it on March 13.
- Babylon 5 collectible card game. It will probably make an appearance at
Gamicon. If you want to learn it before then, ask Steve or mention something
about it on ISCA.
- Go see "Ordinary People" at the Iowa City Community Theatre.
- People are starting to leave. Does that mean the meeting's over?
I guess. Until next time then...
