SFLIS Minutes August 13, 1997
- SIF Minutes from August 13, 1997, with no more jet lag and no more computer
lag...
- This Friday, August 16th turn the pigeons loose, and see the
fireworks! Well, something like that. If you want to get in on the SIF
excursion, the rendez-vous point is Jon and Michele Maakested's in North
Liberty. People will congregate at 5:15 and leave at 5:30 SHARP. To wile away
the time while waiting for the explosions, Michele will playtest her Star Wars
Robo Rally game. If you are so moved bring food to share, and games, and
pleasant coversation. To get into this explosives extravaganza, the cost will
be $10 a car, so there will be much cramming and tucking to get into as few
vehicles as possible. Which reminds me--children under 17 must be accompanied
by a parent or guardian.
- Michele circulated the Gamicon Lite flier for proofing.
- As of August 20, we intend to begin meeting in the mill again, unless
some other SIF person renders that obsolete by posting that we're not in this
space. But the plan is the Mill, and I intend to be there.
- Jon and Michele report that Gencon was a good time, and that the new
folks in charge are very concerned about fan opinion. Michele met Sergio
Argones.
- AnimeIowa Prereg ends in a few days, according to Marty. Cool
things--possibly a juke box full of anime songs. Kakoi! The premiere of
Armitage the movie. Sugoi! A showing of the irresponsible Captain Tyler.
Subarashii! Right now we have about 50 prereg. Sore wa totemo ii desu. Zehi
minasan, doozo itte kudasai. Or that rocks. We should all go.
- This weekend's anime show is in the Ohio State room at the usual
times. It's a cat theme.
- Steve Crow says that Chris Lambert will be in a 4th Highlander movie,
although it won't have Adrian Paul in it. Miramax is still waiting for a script
which has lots of "romance and philosophy between the explosions."
- The Highlander TV show will have 13 new shows this year, of which all
but one will have Adrian Paul. 4 of those shows will have female spin off
warriors ( a la femme Nikita, or some chick with a chackrum)
- Jon celebrates that XFiles begins on FX on February 19, and Jon and
Michele are having a party at their pad. Gather around 6:30 for the party. It's
not a dinner party, but munchies are cool.
- Lynda mentions that the Bristol and Shakopee Renn Faires are
beginning this weekend.
- This week's book discussion Neuromancer.
- That's it for this week. If you loose you're hearing at the fireworks
fest, it's cool, more people will read my minutes. But if the lights are too
bright, well, perhaps it will just be rock concert intensity and the spots will
disappear from in front of your eyes in a few short days.
