SFLIS Minutes April 2, 1997

officially solicits TIC skit scripts. The deadline for this is July 1.

Icon officially solicits LARP proposals. The deadline for this is June 1.

More details will be posted on line.

Icon has four dealers tables left. We are a full two months ahead on filling the dealers room from where we were last year.

LARP submissions for Icon that are not used can and will be submitted to Gamicon.

Icon is looking for TIC director nominations, and con com nominations for the next Icon. Just to clarify that potentially confusing sentence, TIC director is for the upcoming Icon.

Minicon was reported to be a blast by those who attended. Marty achieved godhood by creating a queensize screen in the Anime Cabana. (And here I always thought you had to go to the underworld or something..) Qvark's Bar was pretty popular, and the Iowa embassy was successful. All told, there were some 3457 people in attendance.

Gamicon has set prices. Preregistration is $10 for GM's and $12 for players. They'll take money now. This year there will only be 100 survivial packs, and 13 of those are gone!

Next Gamicon meeting is at Nigel and Susan's on Sunday, April 13th, at 1pm.

AnimeIowa got lots of preregs at Minicon. Guest of honor pending, but close.

Gregg and Mitch will head up guest nomination efforts for Icon 23. If you have a nomination, come to next week's meeting, or post them here. Voting will occur at the April 16 meeting.

April 27 will be our field trip to the Des Moines Science Center to see the Star Trek science exhibit. If you're interested in going, contact Michele. We'll leave in the morning, do a McDonald's lunch thing, and be at the center from 12-5. You can have all this fun for a mere $4, plus the cost of your food.

Jon will check into what's going on with Riverfest and seeing if we can get a table.

Next SWAMP is April 6 in C107 Pappajohn from 1-8. AnimeIowa meeting follows. Don't forget the special 2nd anniversary showing on April 20.

Michele is making combination book markers calenders to give out so people are aware of our activities. Way to go!

Henry's TV report (filling in for Simon) Dr. Who--Greatest Show in the Universe. Red Dwarf--Epidsode 6 of Season 7 Possibly a new DS9 New Millenium 'Bout everything else is trapped in a rerun.

Tonight Stephen King's Tommyknockers begins on USA.

Gregg suggested we adopt a section of highway. Henry's checking into the why's and wherefors.

John suggests that we have some viewing nights at various people's houses to entice new members beyond the meeting.

The comet is purdy!

SIF Fest is April 12. We really need someone to put the display case up on Monday. If you're interested, say something soon. Lots of cool panels, gaming, all sorts of stuff. We'll have a downstairs recruiter. Tell your friends.

Lynda gave us the definition of neanderthal, and graciously read some some Asimov prefaces to Ellision stories.

That's about it. Until next time...
